I am trying to use the 1394 port in the front to charge my old school ipod and use the fireware for faster trasnfer speeds. However, the it only connects to the computer this way for data transfer, it does not charge my ipod. This ipod is supposed to be charged only via FireWire or a wall adapter (it is the 3g ipod). Is this port on the Acer 8204 not powered (which i thought all firewire ports are) or is mine just broken?

The laptop firewire port does NOT have power (4 pin vs 6 pin firewire) this is standard for ALL laptop firewire ports (at least all that I've ever seen or heard of) to charge it you'll need to use the wall adapter or USB (I thought most IPODS could charge via USB).

400 only like most, unless u have a mac specific firewire 800 or an aftermarket adaper card
