Ok, I'm annoyed enough now to bring this up. I have an 8204 that i have had for a little over a year. I have Synaptics driver version 6.2 and have been experiencing the same thing, seemingly with all versions of this driver.

Once installed and configured it all runs fine for a while. I have the scroll Up, down, left, right buttons set to do just that. Then one day, for no seeming reason, the scroll button seems to lose it's mind and quits working Going into the settings and resetting these parameters doesn't seem to bring it back. I have to reinstall the driver to get it back.

I have also installed the driver for my Logitech marble mouse, that i use when docked. There does not seem to be a conflict here because these drivers coexist and operate just fine for quite a while together. Besides, i used to have this same problem with earlier Synaptic versions before i installed the Logitech driver.

One thing i have not tried is updating the BIOS to the lastes version. I have 3312 installed now. This might be an issue.

I'd like to know if anybody else is having problems with their touchpad butons?

my scroll button and the side of trackpad scrolling both stopped working pretty soon after i got the machine, never bothered to fix them.

now i have BIOS 3516 and at some point installed new synaptics drivers and both the button and the side scrolling area work.

My touchpad and its buttons have worked fine for me. Originally, the scrolls would only work in explorer derived windows (Internet Explorer, browsing folders, the usual) but not in Opera. Updating the Synaptics drivers fixed that nicely though. I don't believe it's a BIOS issue so much as a driver issue. I have an external Microsoft USB mouse that I use most of the time but I've never installed the drivers for it. Consequently, the tilt scroll and the thumb button on the thing have no effect in Windows :D I honestly think that it's a conflict between your two mouse drivers.
