Previously there was a long thread about the 8204;s unstable nic, constantly resetting itself due to a bad eerprom on the intel nic (I had that problem). After installing the update everything works fine.. it seems! But it's not! If you have the possibility, check your transfer speed against another computer on the same connection, the 8204 is doing horrible, about 10% of capacity of the network.
Check and see if you can verify this or am i the only one? I think not...

On the contrary, I was copying 20+ gig of data from my Buffalo lan station to my ACER 8204 over the weekend and the ACER seemed remarkly faster than my T43p doing the same thing.
This was after I installed the eeprom update and REBOOTED! Before I installed the eeprom, I experience the same erratic behavior that I had with the first 8204 that I rec'd. -
I digged some more into this and found a solution(?). According to my ISP the media type should be set to 100Mbps Full duplex, which works fine on all of my other 4 machines. Setting this on the 8204 gives full speed upstream but only 10% capacity downstream. After changing the setings on the Intel nic to "Auto" I got full capacity. Strange.
8204 owners, check your network!
