    8920 gemstone black bars

    how do i remove the black bars when i watch blu ray films,tried the settings letterbox and cinema version but they are still there.

    I assume you mean black bars on top and bottom, the sad truth is most HD movies have them. One exception is Clockwork Orange, if you still got the bars with that movie then something is wrong somewhere.

    BTW Jeffo does the Blu-ray drive make much noise on the the 8920?

    hi the drive is not noisy to me, i watched beowulf last night which looked stunning but would have liked the screen without the bars which i thought it would as its a 16.9 screen.

    from my understanding,, true letter-box 16:9 screens are much longer than they are high... and while these newer screens are a lot closer than previous screens have been... even these new screens are not true letterbox screens

    that is why you are getting the blank (black) areas above and below the main screen...

    the only way i can see you getting rid of them would be to set your player to output the screen in 4:3,, which would also cut off screen area on each edge of the screen...

    There is nothing wrong with the screen, it's the ratio the film was shot in, if you read here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspect_ratio_(image) all will be explained.
