    Hi all,

I require some help on repairing a bad bios flash for this laptop. The problem started after clearing the bios from with in windows and then using acer esettings to create another password which would save the bios but it seems it did not save properly and resulted in a bad flash.
The laptop no longer boots up, it just hangs with a black screen.

I have downloaded the updated bios file from acer web page and used various methods for other acer models which use a usb floppy with the crisis recovey disk and rename 114.rom bios file to bios.wph but cant seem to trigger the laptop into booting from the floppy using win+b/esc and fn+b/esc.

I have also tried putting the bios file onto a cd with various different file names but again it doesnt want to boot from cd either.

I am really struggling now with this and cant seem to find any alternative methods and files to try.

Any sugestions will be most appreciated

    Regards

If you have any warranty, have you tried calling Acer?

Hi thanks for the quick reply, yes it is under warranty and i have spoken to acer, they have informed me that as this a bios related flashing issue i maybe elligible for a repair fee since any error caused to the bios is deamed the users responsibility and therefore not covered under warranty.

Its impossible to believe that a single password change , caused this mess.

Sending it to ACER , its the only legal way , to fix it .

Most or all Password protected Bios ,are set to fail to be re flashed .
Hardware interaction comes first , before it get re flashed , so to reset the old password .

Thats a security policy , so no one to be able to flash password protected laptops , no matter what .

I am not going to offer technical advices on that , I am happy knowing ,
that if i lost my laptop , no one can bring it to life , with out my supervisor password key.

Since i wasnt flashing the bios the password protection to prevent bios flash doesnt matter, i used software from within windows to reset the cmos so i could change the password since i forgot what it was. The password reset was fine but the problem arose once the new password was set in order to save new settings, these settings obviously wernt saved and therefore resulted in failed bios.

I will be booking a repair tomorrow, i just thought that if someone in the know could help me trigger the recovery bios flash utility i wouldnt need to send it off and wait 2 weeks for the return.

    Regards

Well your guessing about how things works , in a hardware level , are wrong .

Also , technical help over Bios locked laptops , its not something that this forum its famous for .

Good luck with your booking for repair ... and for your good .. next time keep a notice about your passwords .

    Take care .
