    Hi,

Just got an 8920, looks great, fast, etc....but i have one big problem. I downgraded to XP, and i'm struggling to find drivers for the laptop. I have been installing every realtek driver i can find but it still say 'no sound device detected'

i have been using this for a some of the drivers:
    ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_8920G/vista/Drivers/

i'm wondering why there are a bunch of VGA drivers, and what is that CIR_ITE driver? but the most important is getting sound back...

    thx!

Have you tried the realtek HD audio driver yet?
I did a clean instal on a 4250 aspire downgrading to XP
was struggling to find Audio drivers like you were, tried many drivers until I used this one.
let me know if you want it and I'll e-mail it over to you

    Regards Robert

could you tell me a bit about how you got the XP to install on the 4250?
is it an AMD based system??

i'm trying to get an ASPIRE 4530 which is AMD and NVIDIA based and keep hitting BSOD errors all over (not related to SATA i don't think... i've tried to both IDE and AHCI in the BIOS and get the BSODs.... can't even get XP to complete the install

but by using an IMAGE of a HDD from an INTEL based acer i can get booted into safe mode... but safe mode w/ networking fails

any help will be greatly appreicated

Here is the link to the driver I used and is currently working for me.

    http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1168k/WDM_R202.exe

Also if you haven't heard of this tool

    http://www.driverheaven.net/nvmodtool.php

It allows you to take the latest and greatest desktop nvidia driver and modify it to work with your laptop. It also doesn't break the Blu Ray playback like some modified video card drivers.

I tried it for the first time last night when I downgraded to XP and so far everything is as expected.

ugly-bear,, if you have to reload the system in the future,,, install the REALTEK sound driver first thing... before any other drivers,,, that will make it much easier....

if you are missing other drivers just give me a shout.... i'll see what i can dig up ;)

Thanks. I'm using these drivers (most of them from ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_8920G/vista/Drivers/):

    Audio:
First, no matter what driver I installed, I simply didn't get sound. Believe me, I tried everything I could find, even Vista drivers. After much googling, it turned out XP SP3 doesn't have something called "Universal Audio Architecture - High Definition Audio". So I downloaded an addon here:
    http://www.dashken.net/index.php?/a...4-Does-NOT-Support-High-Definition-Audio.html

    And the drivers from here:
    ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/not...268_ALC885_ALC889_v6.0.1.5683_Vistax32x64.zip

    And everything worked!

    Video:
Next, I got the Nvidia 175.61 drivers from www.laptopvideo2go.com. Have yet to try that NVModtool.

    Bluetooth, Touchpad, LAN, WLAN:
All from the Acer FTP ( ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_8920G/vista/Drivers/)

    Other:
Also installed the Mobility Center Addon and the Empowering Technology Framework...I think these two enable the Fn+F-key combinations, plus let me change the 4 buttons on the very right. Got these from ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_8920G/vista/Applications/

So that's that. I haven't installed modem, fingerprint reader, and card reader drivers yet, because i didn't use them. I only have the following unknown devices in device manager:
"Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus"
    "SM Bus Controller"
    "Unknown device"
    "USB Device"

That's that. Bigozone, do you have everything installed? On another note, do you know if the Cinedash keys can be reassigned to other programs?

actually i don't have a 8920..... i only own a cheap 5315, but i'm trying to to learn all i can about ACERs.... i do think there are some modified SYNAPTICS drivers that allow you to remap CINEDASH buttons to other programs or features... as i recall, there were 2 threads discussing that topic here, but both were based on the idea and work started as a result of drivers posted on the the fourm section of LAPTOPVIDEO2GO's website,, they have a touchpad section in thier forum and the modifided drivers are stickied at that section of thier forum..

    Ugly_Bear:

I recommend you check out your

C:\acer\preload\autorun\drv folder, you will find a lot of both vista and XP drivers.

In there you should get the Intel PM965 ( gets rid of your SM Bus )
and the touchpad drivers to name a few.

If you check out the apps you can get a lot of the software as well..

The modem, check this link out it worked for me

    http://soulpass.com/2007/11/10/inst...al-sp2-on-acer-aspire-5315-2153-laptop/#modem

not the same laptop but it worked.
