Ok so got the 8930g with a 9700m GT 512mb DDR3, question is, the core clock on it is 575 max, isn't that maybe a little low? memory is 800 max, checked these via gpu-z.

Basically is this normal for the DDR3 model.

I have the 8930G with 9600m GT which has core clock of 500 so yours seems correct.

According to this site your core is bit low. 625MHz is the reported
    Notebookcheck: Nvidia 9700M GT

If you download Nvidia System Tools you can easily (over)-clock your card at 625 MHz. The 8930G is running quite cool so I don't think you are going to get any problems.

To be honest I don't know. The only Acer laptop that has been produced with quad core here in UK is the 8935g but in USA the 8930G comes with quad core USA 8930G. In theory all the laptops with PM45 or GM45 chipset should support quad core but that also depends on the BIOS support as well by the manufacturer.

I don't have Win7 installed in my laptop now so I can't help you. If you don't get any help, you can install Rivatuner instead which is very famous on that area.
When you say freezing, you can't even press Ctrl-Alt-Delete?
I didn't know you had Win7 because according to Nvidia the soft is only for Vista and XP. Too bad now we have to wait until September I guess for a new version.

Well if need be, i can dual boot Vista and Window's 7 and try it out that way.

I just found somewhere else that System Tools are compatible with Win7. People say it's working normal in their systems. So I don't know. You can reinstall the soft and check it again.

You have to check if your BIOS is the latest. AFAIK initially 8930G was shipped with C2D (core 2 duo) only, and after some time, the C2Q (core 2 quad) was available, also with a new BIOS in there.
