    Hi all

I have an acer 8930g that has been having battery issues after fresh vista install device manager recognises the battery as acpi compliant and the battery has been tested an found to be in good order (by a local laptop shop)
but vista fails to recognise it i have done all the usual including updateing drivers, vista sp, epower software i am running the latest bios and still no luck any help with this would be much appricated as i contacted acer and they are saying it is a software problem i have reinstalled vista 3 times to see if it had just missed the file but nothing i noticed that i still have the pq service partion on the drive but erecovery will not install is there any other way to use this partion to restore to factory default i can not use the ctrl-alt-f10 route as it doesnt want to work even with d2d switched on in bios please any help would be great cheers

    dave  :(

sos didnt explain very well the battery only functions for about 2 mins in windows yet the local shop put it in one of there customers machines and it lasted nearly 4 hours somtimes the little orange charging light flashes for about half hour but vista still says no batt installed if possible would like to somehow use pq service partion to restore to factory but as yet have been unable to do so.

If this issue just started after a fresh install chances are good that it is software
Have you any unknown devices in the device manager

Will the battery charge at all in windows

Will the battery charging indicator on the laptop indicate that the battery is charging when windows is shut down and the laptop is plugged into the charger

If it will only run for a few minutes on battery then it shuts down in windows try starting up and boot to bios only on battery only and see how long it will run that way

It's hard to beleve that you need special drivers in windows ,just to allow the battery to charge

have tried this lol the machine will just shut off after about 2-3 mins in windows but will sit in bios without being plugged in for hours.

sometimes the battery light on the front of the laptop flashes to say that it is charging but still dosnt show up in vista

OK software confirmed for sure then

I just don't know your laptop well enough , but in every case of fresh load in any of mine ,windows did not need special drivers to be able to charge the battery properly , only to display battery condition on the screen using hotkeys

I don't have a clue on pq partition as I have always loaded O/S directly from a disk

If I understand what you are saying right ,you want to try to restore your laptop from a recovery partition located on you hard drive

Do you want me to change your thread title again to something different

    Hi,

after a fresh Vista install, have you installed all drivers for your hardware and also all patches and Service Packs offered by Windows Update?
Were there any problem indicators in Device Manager?

    Hm,

    you can try this:
    1. Install Battery Bar and see what it reports for your battery.
    2. What happens if you start Windows in Safe Mode?
    3. Uninstall Acer ePower stuff
    4. Shutdown your computer, remove the battery, disconnect the power cord and press the power button for ~15 seconds. Then install the battery again, plug in the power cord and restart normally.
Not sure if any of these helps, but it is worth trying.
