Hello,
I have an Acer as8930g, great laptop, had it since '09.
Recently I tried booting it up, and before Windows was fully loaded it just shut off, and the power light went dead and everything.
I always run this laptop on DC power, and my power brick is fine (I've got no battery), it's getting the right voltage and everything.
When I plug the DC jack in, the lights don't light up, and I hear this clicking sound coming from like the middle area. If I flip it upside down and open it up, it sounds like it's clicking just under where the memory is kept, maybe a little lower.
The clicking is constant, and it starts as soon as I plug it in, and once I unplug it, it goes away.
There's no lights, no nothing, if I press power nothing at all happens, it just sits there and clicks
What could be wrong?

Okay I found the problem. The clicking stops when I remove my video card (9650m gt). When I plug in the dc, the blue lights light up and everything. Maybe I just need to reflow the video card. I heard you can do that in the oven at 250 (F or C?) and just stick the card in for 10min.

Well, for anyone following my thread, I've determined a couple of things.
The motherboard is making a clicking sound which means there's a short in there somewhere. So I've ordered a replacement off ebay.
There's some chance when my motherboard went, it took my old video card with it. I just hope my memory, CPU and mostly my harddrive are okay.
In the meantime, I might try fixing my motherboard, by wrapping it in foil, except for the part that's clicking, and then stick it in the oven on some foil balls (so it doesn't touch the pan) then heating it up to 385F and wait for 8 minutes then shutting the oven off and opening the door a bit to let it cool down.
If that works, well, we'll see what happens.
