Hi all,
I took some of your advise and grabbed a 250gb 7200 wd scorpio black hd. I am however having problems getting it to run on the Acer 9410z that it is going into. First of all, i have populated the board with the max 2 gb ram , i am looking for the T7200 / T5600 cpu and I grabbed this hd for the 7200 rpm side of things, as the drive never gets populated over about 75gb.
Well it is not only running slow, but it is also locking up randomly on large data transfers. I have only to guess that the 3.0 is causing issues with the 1.5 interface.(WD does state that there is an auto translate function built into drive) I am using windows 7 32bit, which until the hd upgrade seemed to manage ok, however wow ran slow.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Did you install all relevant drivers?
Including Microsoft Optional Driver updates? -
So I even reinstalled Vista with about the same luck. I ma wondering if its just a drive problem or if maybe the drive is sucking more power than the OEM one did. Again i am thinking about the WD autosensing . -
Does it have any jumpers? I've seen WD hard disks which have 1.5<->3.0 jumper selection. Did you experiment with AHCI and compatibility?

Just an update I re installed the OEM 5400rpm hitachi drive and put win7 on it with no problems. I was hoping for some more perform but the WD seems to be extra sluggish, not sure it may be the drive as when i tried to run WD diagnostics in Windows it could not find it. Is there a 7200 rpm drive that would be compatible with this laptop, it doesn't have to be a huge capacity as its for my teenage daughter. -
An update gang, I installed the 7200 rpm Seagate 320gb Momentus drive without a hitch, windows 7 and all have installed flawlessly and all are up and running great. Thanks again for the advice ... Next project the processor
