So I have the 9600m GT out of a 8930g installed in my Aspire 5720 laptop but every nvidia driver that I try to install says that the hardware is not compatible with the driver or some crap.

Am I out of luck with this card or is there a way to force install a driver...or is there a better driver to install?

I've tried the latest 197.16, 186.03 drivers from nvidia. Even from laptopvideo2go...no dice.

    Any advice?

You could try the modded INF that LaptopVideo2Go provides - it should remove any and all restrictions on hardware.

Well as I stated in the original post, I tried lv2go drivers (with modded inf) and it wouldn't install so I just ordered a 8600m Gt off ebay.

Crappy thing is that I damaged the stock 8400m GS while removing the plate so now I am out of a laptop for a few days.

    Doh!!!

Not completely out - you can still run the system without the driver for the 9600M GT...just at low resolution without any graphics acceleration.

I had to put it back into my bro's 8930g...hahaha

I was just seeing if it would work so I could buy one from ebay.

Try the 8930g's original driver from Acer's site. Then you can upgrade.
I have a 5720g too I will search Ebay for 9600m GT. But do you know the part number of the card. These cards are used in 8930g.

Burc, if you checked the Acer MXM thread, you'd know more.
The VG.9PG06.006 and VG.9PG0Y.005 are as far as I know identical in all ways - the reason for the different part numbers is where the cards are sourced from.
    The VG.9EG06.001 is not a 9600M GT, however; it's a GeForce 9700M GT MXM-III card, and wouldn't fit in an MXM-II notebook.

I checked there but I should have missed it.
    Thera are 5 types of 9600m gt's.
    [VG.9PG06.002] ..MSI
    [VG.9PG06.006] ..MSI...used in 8930G
    [VG.9PG06.008] ..MSI
    [VG.9PG0Y.005] ..Yuan..used in 8930G
    [VG.9PG0Y.006] ..Yuan

But I think all of them are the same
:( or not they could have different vbios.

I tried the Acer driver but it's only for Vista 32 bit...whereas I have Vista 64 bit.

Try Acer's 6930G's vista 64 bit driver. It should work. That driver has 9600m gt support

Hey burc thatnks for the tip.

I just put the 8600m gt in and it was just plug and play with the nvidia 197.16 driver.

I haven't bothered to steal my brothers 9600m gt. Didn't want to spend that much money ($200+) on a 9600m gt when I got a 8600m gt for $80.

Tryin to save up for the TimelineX or Asus N82!

Dude stop spamming the same post all over the forum.

There has never been a 9650m GT in an Acer, AFAIK.
