Starlight5 Yes, I'm a cat. What else is there to say, really?
1. Plug in old VGA card
2. Perform clean uninstall of VGA drivers
3. Replace VGA card with new one
4. Install VGA drivers -
Hello. I'm also having same issue with same hardware. Even did clean W7 install with gf drivers, but no change at all. Also managed to install and work with newer drivers like 3xx.xx from 2014-15 (did powermizer off) but another problem still remains.
Even on newer drivers this card act's same like on very old ones drivers (like nv 18xx.xx) which are confirmed to work, but the main problem is, in-game graphics are pretty ugly (ie Grid 2/Mortal Kombat and other modern games looks like mid 2000' Pixel shader 2.0 one's or worst) , looks like lack of effect/shaders or something. After 1-2 minutes of playing with this ugly, low graphic, temps getting 90c + and artefactcs show's up, throttling etc..
From what i'm seeing from forums, this card is pretty driver problemative crap, even in originally mounted-with Asus z97 and others.
My bios is 1.45, gpu 9650m GT.
I'm think i'm out of options to get this thing work properly, i assume reflashing 9650m GT with 9600m GT vbios will not help?
So all Acer 5720 and similar laptop owners, better stay away from 9650m GT if you planning to use this card to play games, and look for ATI alternatives like 2600 which im using happily from 5 years now. -
There is a probability that GPU is faulty (esp. in case of extra high temps.), try it in another laptop to be sure,
you may also try flashing modified BIOS, although it is not necessary for 5720,
anyway ATi 3650 mobility seems to be the most reliable replacement, a bit slower than 9600M but better stability and compatiblity overall.
9650m gt and acer aspire 5720zg
