Not my photo's, but getting ready for processor swap.. Just want to make sure that the top of the chip(s) that sit underneith what i have circled in yellow is the only things that gets the ArticSilver.
Not sure if i have to do both L & R on the processor side.. I was thinking just the Left chip only, but not sure if the large chip on the Right heats up as well...... On second thought, i think there might be some sort of plastic heat tranfer sheet on the Right chip anyways.. So maybe best left alone and i should just do the Left C2D chip only.
Also.. on the videocard side, i guess it's just on the topside of the one videocards main chip that sits under where i circled...... As the others (the memory chips) have some sort of heat transfer pad on them already.. I think that would be a bad idea to remove the memory heat pads and replace them with just ArticSilver, as it might not sit right due to the height loss.
So... Do i have the correct area(s) for applying the ArticSilver right?
*I mean on the topside of the chips below what i have circled in yellow... And not on the circled parts side!!

My Arctic Silver 5 experiences have lead me to apply it on both the CPU and GPU. Both chips that are covered by the circled areas. It will lower the temps for both, the CPU obviously slightly more.
You will be safe applying to both, just make sure to apply little dots on each chip and then to affix the heatsink on top. Do not apply to both and or spread it out. Also make sure the chips are very clean before applying. -

Thanks for the tip... but i'm not sure if i could do the dot method the correct way without seeing it first. What about the thin layer with a creditcard? -
Thats a big no no with Arctic Silver 5, it will disperse itself after it's applied through a few heat cycles.

You don't need very much at all, infact by applying too much you will do more harm than good. -

All you need is a single little dot in the center of each chip

After several heat cycles it will pan out and will pancake on the chip head like in the top CPU shown here:

If you put on a bunch of little dots like in your picture there you would have AS5 leaking all over your motherboard and it would fry your notebook -

Remove the terrible thermal pads from cpu,gpu and chipset and apply thermal paste.
Just leave the pads for the vga ram,because if you remove them you won't have good contact.
As for the applying method,put a drop and make a thin layer with a razor a credit card or sth.They are naked chips,so don't try the method for cpus with IHS,it will spread all over when you put the heatsink. -

So.. your recomending (from 1st posted photos) to put the ArticSilver-5 on the "L-large cpu", "R-large chipset", and the large single GPU.. but.. Doesn't the "R-chipset" have a clear plastic thermal material over it? Your suggesting to remove that?
I'm also curious as to how easy the C2D will come out of the socket (best method), and what is also the best way to put the new one in. -

Just took a look at it.. You mean turn the screw, there is no lever with this socket. I should have it tommorow (sept-12th) via fedx.
