Since im pretty new to this forum, i would like to ask how i can find out how fast ram my notebook supports, currently it has two 333mhz in it which is pretty slow, but is that as fast as it supports? Also, i would like to know how fast my HDD spins, vista experience index gives it 5.3 rating but that sounds like bs to me since (i think) that it is only a 4.200rpm

The i965 chipset, in your notebook supports memory frequencies only upto 333MHz....Thats the limit..!!
A 4200RPM HDD is pretty slow. You should consider upgrading to a 320GB 5400RPM/7200RPM HDD....!! You will get a real boost in boot times and application startups....
    Vista's WEI is crap.. :D

To do a proper synthetic benchmark, download HD Tune and do a Read Benchmark in it....It will give you an idea about how fast your HDD is, as compared to the newer, better HDDs.

hdtune says min 32,1 max 65,4 average 50,4, access 17,2. Are you sure its only a 4200?

    No way.. :D
Can you upload a screenshot of that first page of HD Tune with the benchmark result....!!
There will be a 'save screenshot' button at the top..!!

DUDE no way that is a 4200RPM HDD..!!
It is the Western Digital 320GB 5400RPM HDD, same as mine.. :D (check my sig, WD3200BEVT ;))
I actually get 54MB/s as average..!! I hope it is in AHCI mode....
Anyway, that benchy is fine, since some background service is pinging it at the end, hence the fall..!!

Yeah, you will get a little boost..!! (BigO says it increases chances of data corruption )
I know of a way by which you can enable AHCI, after installing XP, but it is a little bit risky.. ;)

But after doing some research myself i found out that i dont have a i965 but a PM965 and that should indeed support up to 667mhz.

this is from intels website :D
So i guess i should upgrade my sloppy 333mhz as fast as possible.. :p

No, I meant by i965 - GL960/965GM/965PM (was referring to the chipset family)

    The Ram installed is DDR2, so the frequency is 333.xMHz * 2 = 667MHz....
So, you already have the ram with the max frequency..!!

Frequency of the ram really doesn't matter in your case, because if you have two DDR2-667 modules installed, the max bandwidth of the ram is 5.3GB/s * 2 = 10.6GB/s, which is bottlenecked to 5.3GB/s (166MHz * 2 * 4) if you have a CPU with 667MHz FSB installed.....
    [Hence memory divider 0.50 (1/2)]
So the frequency of the ram won't really improve performance at this point..!!

You can confirm this through CPUz....
