let me first say, hello. I just joined up as you can see.
And that I'm not very savvy with computers.

This seemed like the best place to get answers or tips.

I was first wondering if I can urgrade from the on board graphics, to the Nvidia GeForce 9600M GS.

I'm thinking no, but because I don't know for sure I just wanted to ask.

Its extremely rare for a laptop to have upgradable graphics so I very much doubt it. Laptop graphics are usually soldered onto the motherboard.

Which model of 6930 is it? The model number should be 6930-XXXX. The last part tells the actual configuration.

If it has the Intel graphics, you are stuck with that because the graphics are integrated on the motherboard. I don't know if the Nvidia graphics can be upgraded, they are on a separate board, so maybe it's possible.

The Intel shared video RAM is dynamically allocated as needed. You can't control it.

    well... then I'm screwed.
daaamn working on a budget sucks.
I've looked for the exact model, but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

at any rate, the laptop specs are in my sig.

I was shocked to see that I can no longer play eve online with this laptop.
for some reason the game runs silky smooth until a sun comes into my camera view. At that point the game becomes unplayable. very confusing.

There's a white sticker on the bottom with the serial number, mfg. date, etc. It has the full model on it.

Your laptop most likely has the Intel 4500 IGP which is NOT suitable for gaming and it is NOT upgradable. Allocating more memory isn't needed as the IGP allocate it automatically. Also, more memory won't increase the IGP performance at all.

Hi, if you could find the LX number and give the last three digits we would be able to identify the exact model. It should be something like this LX.AUU0X.151 and might be on your invoice. I also think that none of the 6930's have onboard graphics, certainly Acer don't list them as having one and with my supplier the least powerful gfx card is the 9300m and this should be indicated on a sticker attached to the laptop. Can I ask, why you feel the need to upgrade the card anyway?

Many 6930 comes with Intel 4500 onboard graphics, check here. Actual example, from an online store(LX.ASR0X.037 - [IMG] Acer Aspire 6930-6940) can be found here.

Hi, ok I stand corrected, it would seem tha different countries have different specs and I was referring to uk suppliers. As you said then, if it is onboard then it is not possible.

    Well Chris.

I wanted to upgrade cause this is the only laptop I could afford on my tight budget... And before my old dell gave out I played lots of online games, like EVE, WoW, Megaten, as well as several off line games.
Now my desktop wasn't anything to write home about. Just an old dell dimension 4700. P4 cpu at 3.6Ghz. 512 ram, and an Radeon X300gs 128mb graphics card. It worked pretty well but alas, after 5 years it crapped out on me.

So, I'm stuck with this until I can save up again for either a new desktop or a new laptop.
