my brother would like a laptop that can play advanced modern games (bad company 2, SWTOR, guild wars 2), but still be a modern, thin laptop, that has a good battery life.
he was looking at an acer 4820 with a 5650, and an i5 520m with 2.4 GHz and 2.93 GHz in turbo boost. most gaming laptops only have like 2 hours of battery life so i was wondering, how long does the battery last at full gaming on this computer and how long for normal tasks.
i asked a similar question in the 'can my notebook run this game' thread, so sorry if u read that one at well :)

Normal tasks... I think you should expect at least 6 hrs browsing the internet with brightness turned down to reasonable level... my 3820TG gets about 7 hrs.

Gaming... I wouldn't bother playing games on battery, especially not the recent ones, since the battery isn't going to give you enough power for your graphics card so your frame rate becomes abysmal. Probably an hour of choppy Bad Company 2. For older games... depends entirely on how much graphics power it needs/draws.

Here's a review that includes battery life.

Also, keep in mind that the Aspire TimelineX 4820TG has switchable graphics, so you can disable the Radeon HD 5650 for normal tasks and just run on the Intel GMA HD on the Core i5.
