    Hello,

I've been searching around, but haven't found much info on upgrading some components of the 8920...I'll have to admit that my search skills are not top notch...

I'm leaning towards the 8920-6030 model, but there's a few things I'd like changed.

Can the CPU be upgraded? I'm thinking about slapping a T9x00 in there. Maybe a T9500 instead of the T8100. I know the CPU here isn't much of a bottleneck, but I'm a nut. :)

Can the GPU be upgraded? I looked at the manual that was posted here on the forum, and it showed a "GPU Socket". Does that mean I can pull out the 9500M and stick something like a 8800M GTX in it's place?

I'm hoping these changes can be made...I love the look of the Gemstone Blue series, and people seem over all happy with them.

Any information would be appreciated! Thanks!

The CPU can be upgraded all the way upto a X9000.

GPU - Most likely that the 9650M GS is the max.

I remember a guy trying out the 8800M GTX at another forum and he failed.

You could try out a 9700M GT but its not much of an improvement over the 9650M GS. Plus MXM-GPUs are expensive and hard to come by.

Thanks for the reply. Do you know what the limiting factors on the GPU are?

    Thanks again for the info..

Limiting factors -> the GPU (9500M GS), or on the upgrade capabilities of the 8920G ?

The 8920G comes with an MXM-III slot, which means that theoretically any MXM-II or MXM-III card can be used.
The issue comes in the form of the video BIOS on the card - it has to match the notebook's manufacturer, i.e. an ASUS card can't be used in an Acer machine unless its BIOS is flashed.
The 8920G can be upgraded to the 9650M GS, but that's an expensive move up - how does 250€ sound before taxes? - not to mention voiding the warranty.
If you really want to pull it off, visit AcerParts.com.

As for the CPU, it's easily upgradeable to a T9300 or T9500 - the X9000 might be a little dicey due to its increased heat output.
