Just a quick heads up guys. If you have not done so already I highly suggest that you flash your bios to the latest version that can be found on Acer Europe's site.

There is a new bug I found between the ACPI control and 2D and 3D graphics. Apparently if you are running 2D graphics the ACPI control will kick in and cool your cpu to 48C - 50C avg. However if you are in a 3D envyroment it will not cool your CPU or engage the fan until 70C, and then shut off @ 60C. Just a word of warning to you who may have outdated bios's on your pc's.

After flashing to the latest version I now idle @ 47-48C and my max load is at 58-60C while gaming. With the previous glitch I hit 70C randomly after playing for about 45min's or so, I think this is the cause of many of the overheating issues as well as failed motherboards we have heard about. Apparently the glitch in the ACPI controls and the thermal sensor's means that after gaming for awhile (either on AC or battery) the controller would not cool below 60. The thermal sensors built into the laptop were not programmed correctly when shipped or had a bug in them. I confirmed this with Acer's USA phone support today.

Also don't forget to give your laptop plenty of ventalation by propping it up with a book in the back, or using a cooling pad.

Just a heads up for everyone ;)

If you need help flashing your bios check the stickie @ the top of the fourms in the 5672wlmi how-to, there are direct links to the needed programs and firmware.

This question may be in the wrong place, but I must be clueless; I can't even install Winflash that comes with the bios. I unzipped the Winflash folder and ran setup.exe. The computer seems to chew on it a couple seconds and then nothing happens. If it's installed itself I don't know where it is.

According to the 5672wlmi stickie I quote

    "Flashing Your Bios In Windows

Download the latest bios here don't worry if you do not have a europe laptop, a bios is a bios and it should work fine.
You will also need to download WinFlash Utility in order to flash your bios.
Now unpack and install the utility and its pretty much cake from there, since the program walks you through it, and remember always make a backup."

First thing mentioned is downloading the bios, download it here ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_5620_5670/bios

Second thing needed is the application, download it here https://www.synapsenow.com/synapse/data/7117/documents/WINFLASH_5670.zip

    A. Download both files

    B. Install the winflash utility from link #2.

    C. Back up your bios and save it in a safe place off your PC (flash drive etc.)

    D. Flash your bios with the file you downloaded

Thank you kindly SSX... I did read the sticky before I posted but somewhere I missed that I had to get winflash from synapse and not use the one that is included in the bios zip. It's odd because the readme with the bios says to install the winflash that's included.

Anyway, that seemed to go okay. I appreciate your help.

    edit-nevermind.
