    Hello,

I have had an Acer 5672 for about 2 years. Recently the charger died on me, so I got another one on ebay and now every time I plug the charger in I have to wiggle it around to get it to work properly. Two questions:

Is it likely that the charger I got on ebay (generic one made in China) is just a piece and is creating all the problems?

How expensive would it be to replace the AC part of the laptop? Could I possibly get a spare part and do it myself?

    Thanks,

    Gustavo

sounds to me like a loose solder joint where the plug adapter is affixed to the circut board...

or the new adapter-plug hole could be oversized from inserting and removing the plug at an angle.... or the center pin could be loose inside the plug-hole

It doesn't seem like the pin is lose: I can't wiggle it around with anything, pressing on it doesn't depress it. What would you recommend I do, either way?

    Thanks,

    Gustavo

my bad,, i read that wrong...

you are wiggling the AC PLUG.. can you tell if it wiggles the actual plug receptical? it sounds kinda like the hole in the center of the plug (at the end of the cable is not the correct size) ((like either the outter diamater is too small and not snuggly filling the the receptical, or the inner hole (inside the plug end of the cable is larger than the PIN it is to make contact with))

does that sound like what you are experiencing?? or is the receptical inside the PC case moving when you wiggle the cord?

When I wiggle the cord it moves quite a bit, but when I move the metal pin inside the computer by itself with a knife it doesn't move at all.

No. The Male end of the adapter isn't fit snug, I think the hole on it is too large.

OK, you mean that hole is too large and its feels loose, right..??

Is it causing any specific problem, overheating or not charging and stuff....!!

The hole in the white plug inside the square in the above picture is too large. It is causing the problem of being temperamental. It would charge unless I wiggle the plug into the slot for a while.

Sorry for the confusing aspect of this question.

It definitely is because of the generic cord....Maybe it might have been made to cover a wide range of acer models, and your notebook might be having a slight thin DC pin..!! If you can open the notebook and wrap that pin with an extremely thin piece of Copper or Aluminium wire, it should make the whole socket tight....but I don't know of the side-effects..!!
So, best to buy the original Acer adapter....and check out the FRU List to get the part no. of the original Acer adapter for your notebook, and search for it on ebay or google for a cheap deal..!!
