    This is awesome!
Did you have to solder on the pci-e header or was it there when you received your laptop?

Also was it hard to solder on if you had to do that?

If you had to solder on PCI-e for HSDPA could you please give us some instructions (preferably with photos) explaining what had to be done? Here is an official 3G mod thread.

    Thanks.

How much did you pay for the parts and where did you get them from? Here in Europe, the 3G-Version is ~100€ more expensive, so if you did pay something near this amount, it would make sense to just buy the better version and not to loose warenty and to risk bricking your mainboard...

I just spend about US$65 only to buy these parts :D
Here is no 3G version at Hong Kong in the market,so I mod it myself.
I bought them from China ShenZhen.

bbgirl223 - Did you have to solder any jumpers to enable power to the PCIe or sim slot?

If you installed all the parts ( antenna,mini-PCIe slot & sim card slot),you must short the pin R174 to supply power +3.3v to the mini-PCIe slot,so that the 3G modem can be worked. You no need to do anything to the sim card slot(if you use with right one) After upgrade the bios to the newest 3303,you need to download the 3G watcher(software from Sierra Wireless). You can enable the HSDPA modem by the 3G watcher. And the wifi lamp will turn on to purple(if you turn off the wifi ). It also can use GPS with the Sierra Wireless MC-8781.It's perfect!

Awesome! This is just the information I was looking for. I will attempt this mod as soon as I get the parts together. I will try to video the mods I do (bluetooth, overclock, PCIe) to help others here. I will be getting my 1410 today and should be doing the bluetooth mod within a few days.

    Thank you so much!

    Thank you

Hi, thanks for your excellent information! I just brought a 1810T and the sim card and mini pci socket upon your suggestion. Could you please post some pictures or english converted instruction from your HK forum? Unfortunately I cannot translate.

Also, how did you figure out that you need to bridge R174?

    Thanks!
    Jai

I managed to get my mainboard modded and have successfully installed the Huawei EM770W card. Windows 7 supports this as a dialup modem out of the box, or Acer's WWAN Application will work with it (it is the Huwaei software rebranded).

The device has not installed a GPS port, it only has

MODEMS > HUAWEI Mobile Connect - 3G Modem
NETWORK ADAPTORS > HUAWEI Mobile Connect - 3G Network Card
PORTS > HUAWEI Mobile Connect - 3G Application Interface (COM3)
    > HUAWEI Mobile Connect - 3G PC UI Interface (COM4)

    SO no GPS port unfortunately!!!

Oh here is something real nerdy - a development board for this modem!! http://www.maxon.com.au/udocuments/EM770W_DEMO_BOARD_GUIDE_1.02.pdf

No mention of GPS in this list of features

    Hi BBGirl,
I can't find anyone on-line who says they sell the Plastren one. I read the Hong Kong thread, but it looks like you have a real store where you can buy them. Do you know anywhere on-line that I can get one ?
    Thanks ...

If you use the right one sim card slot ,you no need to do anything !
But you must not use Proconn sim card slot, it will damage you sim card!

This sim card slot is the original parts for Acer, it is very difficult to find it.

Ok ... thanks everyone :) Mine is working sweetly with no pain at all - unbelievable !

I used the parts linked below. I ordered two sim holders from different suppliers because I wasn't sure which one would be the proconn one. When I got them, the non-proconn holder was obviously the right one to use - It had locating lugs which fitted exactly into corresponding holes on the motherboard, and it also had lugs to solder onto matching pads on the motherboard. The eBay seller for this holder was pridopia.

I used two antennae - They came with short connecting cables, so I didn't even consider routing them up to the screen - I just laid them flat on top of the wireless card. There was no problem with clearance for the cover to close, and I'm getting excellent signal levels.

I used a Sierra MC8700 card - it gives the same HSPA+ speeds as the USB308 that it's replacing, and I wasn't bothered about getting GPS.

My eyes aren't as good as they used to be, so the soldering wasn't as smooth as I'd have liked, but I just took plenty of time and care, and it worked first time. Amazing :)
