ok this is a weird one i have had an acer travelmate 230 series laptop for nearly 3 years and i was verry happy with it untill a few weeks ago when my audio droped out for some reason i now only receve audio through the left speaker because the right one is dead but the confusing thing is im getting static through the left speaker at the same time , i have tried hooking it up with external speakers but the static just continues through them the same with my headphones i asume this may have something to do with my sound card any help would be great

    please respond ASAP anyone

What kind of audio controller do you have? I suggest going to Acer's website and downloading/installing the latest audio driver.

If that doesn't work post back. ;)

I suggest downloading and installing the latest audio drivers from your sound card's manufacturer - they will be newer than the ones Acer has for download.

Ah ok - you can do it manually. Just follow this...

Right click My Computer > Properties > Hardware tab > Device Manager > Sound, Video and game controllers. Post what you see in there. I see:

    -Audio Codecs
    -Legacy Audio drivers
    -Legacy video capture devices
    -Media control devices
    -Realtek High Definition audio
    -Video Codecs

The Realtek High Definition Audio is my sound card. You won't have the same one, but just post what you see, and then we'll see if we can find drivers ;)

Thanks - that helps. The only driver I was able to find was the one from Acer - link. Download and install that - let me know how you make out.
