I have an Acer 5315-2122 upgraded to 2gb ram and a T5450. My question is do I have the GL960 chipset or the GM965? I know that theoretically there is a 2gb limit on ram and Celeron only with the GL960 but I have upgraded to Core 2 Duo so this is why I am confused. I seem to have conflicting reports running system information software. Everest Ultimate Edition reports a GL960 with 2GB max ram but supported an 800mhz FSB. Intel Chipset ID utility reports it as a GM965.

Also, I have read in other posts that I could upgrade to 3gb ram putting the 2gb chip into the bottom slot (or the other way around)..is this possible?

    Any input would be appreciated

easy way to tell is put more than 2gb of memory in it if it gets a bsod on boot up it is a gl960. if not you have a gm965 which supports 4gbs of mem.

That unit has the GL960, It will support up to 3gb of ram even though it says 2gb max, anything over will cause it not to boot.

Not sure if this is your unit or not.. Hope this helps..

I had a gateway with a GL960 and was using 3 gb's of ram, I know the 2gb stick has to go into a certian slot not sure which one you would need to try both slots and if it boots with 3gb then its good to go if not just switch them, I also ran a T7700 2.4 cpu in it aswell and it worked great..

    GL960 for sure.

3GB RAM max in certain slot/stick combo. Not officially confirmed though so no idea if this works in ALL 5315s.

Thanks guys. So its kind of a hybrid...it can support 800mhz FSB but not 4gb RAM. Interesting.
