i've finally purchased my a ACER 5672!! but have had problems with it...such as 4-5 minute load time...and slowness
also my explorer doesnt load properly half the time and gives me an error...but i can still call up task manager and when i type in "explorer" it gives me an error and its just sucked alot overall
i've read almost all the guide's in the Acer 5672's how to....
but sadly enough im to dumb to understand half of it
my old laptop died on me and had windows xp PRO...so im asking if its possible to switch keys and use the XP PRO code and install it on my ACER.
the code...would be the thing on the bottom of the laptop tag with the product code im thinking?? i'll borrow my friends windows xp pro discs.
and i would install windows xp on my dead laptop if i ever get it fixed
can someone tell me in an IDIOT PROOF! way how i can install this?
i just put the disc in...and let it do its stuff??
also..i'd like to know what essential driver's i'd need for my aspire because i have no idea what drivers i'll need afterwards
and if i do this...will the 2 partitions become one? because haveing 2 50 gig drives is kind've annoying
any help will be appreciated thanks!

Welcome ,
Use the recovery CDs to restore to factory settings OR do a fresh install of XP home and then load the drivers from Acer .
Remove as much "junk" from the OS , norton for example is a resource hog .
Enjoy your new notebook . -
how would i do a fresh install of XP home?
and which drivers would i need from acer?? -
Secondly "borrowing" your friends disks won't help you either, because regardless of the manufacturer of the disks they are not origional OEM disks from microsoft. Dell disks will not work with Acer and Acer won't work with Gateway. Not to mention how do we know that your friends disks aren't restore disks and not oem xp disks? There is a difference, please realize this.
I felt the guide that was written by the community was fairly complete for the novice laptop owner. If you need a more detailed one I guess I could do it, but it's kinda like shooting the dead horse again ya know?
If you need a "generalized" idea of how to install windows xp take a look here - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/winxp/install.mspx I can't make it any more straight forward, microsoft even mentioned it themselves and with a guide! If you can't follow this then not even I or microsoft or acer can help you most likely.
Hope this helps, and as always ask around. It's clear that you need compter help and that is why you came hereIf you still can not follow the guide and or can not follow what I am saying here go get some help from a professional who has done this many times before. You may end up having to pay him some money to do so, but then again that is what a pro is
Someone you pay because they are skilled.

thanks i know im a noob when it comes to computers
soo im pretty much forced to use the XP home key which came with my acer 5670. my xp pro key is on my old broken laptop that i dont use anymore.
ok got it...and where would i find the XP home key on my laptop??
is it the bar code thing on the bottom of my laptop??
or would it be the code on my acer box
also...since i never made acer recovery discs....would that mean im screwed?!
i have a dell "operating system "reinstallation cd microsoft windows xp home edition including service pack 1" for my desktop
my cousin has "acer travelmate 2300/4000/4500 recovery cd rev. 3.0" disk 1/2 and disk 2/2 -
A common rule of thumb is that if you don't even know where your cd key is on your laptop, you most likely should not be reinstalling the operating system or making any large changes to the OS without someone consulting you. Get someone to help you and read up on it before attempting of that nature.
also please read what I posted above, you didn't seem to have read it correctly.
As I stated previously
The next step is to do as I mentioned previously. Go contact Acer and do one of five things.
A. Pay through the nose for you to ship the laptop to them, and have them reinstall the base image onto the hard drive
B. Acquire the correct form of the windows xp media (home / pro / mce2k5) from a brick and mortar store for free
C. Pay acer to have them ship you a recovery disk(s)
D. Purchase a second copy of windows xp and use the media provided to reinstall xp (with some assistance of course)
E. Pay me or some other professional to help you.
Again hope this helps

Holy FREAKING crap dude chill OUT. I'm here to help you and anyone else reading this. I was in no way being sarcastic and derogatory to you or anyone else. I was simply stating first and foremost where I was coming from in the help provided.
#1. We have created an online guide for the community to follow. If you can not follow that then by all means please ask here, we are more than willing to help you. I was kind enough to post a step by step guide to reinstalling windows. I also linked a direct quote to the guide stating what to do.
#2. I am in no way, shape, or form looking down upon anyone in my writings. I'm sorry that you may take it that way but good lord and holy crap dude you don't need to be dropping "F" bombs on these forums if you are pissed!I have been more than helpful to people here in writing guides and helping people with their questions. This post is no different.
#4. If you have a problem that is not addressed currently in our "How To's" guide then please post it here. If it has been addressed then please search and read up on it. If you don't understand then we are willing to help by all means, just don't get all flaming mad if you don't understand it when people try to help you.
We are here to help, that's why I take the time to write guides, post answers, and overall help people in general.
I just don't see why you apparently were mad enough to make a name, and reply twice on how mad you were. Not only does this make me look bad but it also makes you look bad as well, if yo have a problem with me and my postings take it to PM or talk to an admin. Sheesh
