Hi, I just tried to update the firmware on my dvd slot loading drive, I think its a Pioneer DVR k16, and the flash failed. Not sure why, but now my drive isnt responding. If I put a cd in, it wont even go all the way in it'll just sit there. I guess the grabing mechanism isn't working. I'm stuck about what to do now... any suggestions?

Try and find the original firmware and hope for the best when flashing.
What new firmware did you use, and where did you get it from? Pioneer make several models of the DVR-K16 for different OEMs, each one has a code after it to indicate what manufacturer the drive was for, in Acer's case you need DVR- K16RA.

OK Here's the thing. I go into Device Manager and it says my Pioneer is a DVR k16.

BUT I remember before I flashed it that it was a Pioneer DVR K06RA. But now I can't find the firmware for that version. ...

I did find a firmware for the k06, but when flashing it, it says "Available target not found." My drive shows up in My Computer and Device manager, however its labeled as a CD drive instead of a DVD. Weird.

Ok I tried the firmware from Pioneer website, doesn't work.. just says "Available Target not found." So then I cloned a backup onto the main partition.. still same. Slot loading drive wont grab the disc. So I'm not sure if its a dead drive or firmware problem. Not sure how to do a clean uninstall of the previous firmware either...

    EDIT

Ok I finally managed to get the firmware installed and now Windows detects it as a DVD drive, but it still wont grab my discs.

    OFF TO ACER IT GOES...

I'm just curious...does it make that eject noise when you push the eject button?

NOPE! It looks completely dead. Sometimes when I start up it might give me an orange light.. but nothing.

    EDIT
Ok so I just restarted.. I hit the eject button and it made this virbating sound for about 1 half second. Sounds like something got jammed/bent. Either ways, Im using my desktop as a replacement for college till I get the latop sent/repaired/sent back.

    Thanks for everyone's help.
