    Hi Guys,

I bought a Travelmate 5720G (a very sick laptop (yes even though it was new [open box]!!). The last resort was to flash my BIOS and the machine died completely. At first it was completely dead - nothing at all. I have removed the BIOS battery then started the process of trying to recover the BIOS. The first time after taking out the BIOS battery I removed the machines battery and plugged in the power cord and the HDD light started to flash and the CD ROM started to spin as though it is looking for a disc. Then I have been trying to work out which file from the BIOS downloads on the ACER site i need to place on the CD to recover it.: http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/tm_5720.html and ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/tra...720/vista/Bios/ . I have tried lots of variations of the files burnt on discs either on there own or multiple files )renamed with extensions changed or original names with extensions changed etc).

The machine is still continuously reading the CD ROM waiting for the correct file!!!! Its very frustrating. I have even tried the Aspire BIOS files but nothing!

On other tech forums i found someone with the same problem but with an Aspire and the advice was that the extension for the file to use was .fd ( http://www.theeldergeek.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=31652&st=0&gopid=205592&#entry205592 )
Can anyone have any input on this, I'm at a bit of a loss now with what to do.

Thanks in advance, any help will be appreciated.

i was able to use a USB DRIVE to do a BIOS RECOVERY.... i followed the info someone pointed me to at the ELDER GEEK also.. see this thread.. and i'll dig thru my PMs to get the ACTUAL STEPS i used...

i found a CRYSIS DISK for your model...

but since my BIOS uses a differnet program to flash the BIOS so the steps below may not work for you.... (my bios is an INSYDE type bios chip)

but it shouldn't hurt anything to make the CRYSIS disk and then transfer the FILES CREATED to a USB THUMB drive and give it a try! it might even work by making a bootable CD with those files... i've not tried to recover a PHENIOX BIOS.

here are the general steps i took..

hope that helps... if not, it is time to contact ACER
