    Here's a crisis disk with BIOS 1.22.
Let me know once you get it so I can remove the link from my dropbox account.

Thanks!! I have it downloaded and will try it after work today. In using a USB flash drive, do I need to change anything in the files to make the drive bootable?

Did this ever work? I have two (yes two) Acer 5740 (not 5740G) that both failed flash (I bought the second when I couldn't get the first to work). I tried flashing the crisis tool with every version of the bios, but it never seems to read the flash drive. I've tried different ones, ones with 8 gb, one with 1 gb, etc. I formatted in every form I can think of (FAT, FAT32, etc.). I tried just burning the thing to a DVD. I can't seem to get it to do anything.

Dear johnstondj. Did you solve your problem? I have also aspire 5740 (i5) (not 5740G). When I wont to upgrade bios from 1.22 to 1.28 I had a problem such yours. I tried the crisis disk with my 1, 4 and 8gb usb I couldn't success, althoug I hade do ones or twices it. But I don't know how I did it. I didn't see a changed color onto power button from blue to orange. Because I upgraded bios from1.22 (or older) to 1.28 with this method (crisis disk), I am not sure that I couln't success again. So, May I change mainboard or only bios integronated? that is, If I change bios from another mainboard such as aspire 5110, 5730 or anyone, I can rescue my mainboard?

I am having the same problem now,
Initially I had a 1:28 version of the bios and try to install a previous version, this was corrupted. Soon after I found this one topic and managed to recover with this crisis disk. I was able to get to windows.
But as I have a hdd in a caddy instead of dvd, and the 1:22 version was not to leave boot into windows when he was the caddy on.
So I tried installing the 1:28 version, but was not able to install, and then tried to install the 1.16 version and installed fine on windows, but when restarted the laptop, no longer starts again and the screen is all black and now I can not longer use the crisis disk.
Anyone have any solution? Should I remove the battery from the motherboard or something?
    Thanks. (Sorry for my english)

Have you followed all the requrements kizwan pointed out here as for how the crisis disk should be created?
Would you like another crisis disk to try - the one I linked to in this very thread but have since removed the link?

No, just read now. Maybe my problem is my Windows 7 x64, or battery, because it was out, it does not load before was always around 3%.
If possible post the link of a crisis disc with the bios v1.09 and another with v1.28.

    Thank you for your help!

    Hello,

    have the same problem:
installed ACER BIOS version for battery issues [116], no errors, when laptot reboots black screen no POST or BOOT

    what I've done:
    1) left the laptop without battery and no power supply - NOK
    2) tried crisis disk from here and others sites - NOK) tried kizwan steps with original[122] version from ACER site - NOK
    4) take CMOS battery out, wait a bit and put it back on, from motherboard - NOK

little note on step 4, tried to repeat the 3 first steps without joy, still the laptop behavior is now different, when I plug the AC cable the laptop power on automatically and stays up for a while, then shutdows automatically the power light flash once and it starts up again auto, atically, no BOOT or POST just a black screen

all input is appreciated, maybe I'm doing something wrong

    my laptop: ACER aspire 5740G
don't have any other PC using windows so can't create the crisis disk myself

EDIT: I've wait more than 20min to get my BIOS flashed no luck
my USB don't flash either, so no comunication between my USB and BIOS

EDIT2: I keep strugling to have the laptop running with no luck so far, I build up a VM with windows XP to run wincris it format my usb ok with some files, still cant see my usb key flashing.
I've a 2Gb usb, can this be the issue?
I saw a different behavior when I press Fn+Esc+power button, all leds blinks then it shutdowns and start again with same lights blinking, 30min after with the usb connected on the left side port, no difference.
I've no more ideas *sigh* guess that laptop is dead
