So I just got the new acer 5740-6491 model and the alps touchpad (multi-touch) does not work well.

When in use the cursor jumps around the screen very erratically.

Ive tried reinstalling the driver and using the synaptics driver as well. Neither work.

Does anyone have support in this issue? Basically all I want is to scroll on the touchpad and doubleclick.

I'm still looking for support on this issue. Does anyone have a better driver? Maybe from another company that supports ALPS or Synaptics?

Try using the 15.0.13 drivers from HP.
Synaptics driver is generic it will work and the 15.0.0 drivers are much better.

I just tried the HP driver and it disabled the multi-touch feature.

Oh then I must say you are pretty unlucky ALPS sucks.
    Big time.
If you are using ALPS TP then you have to stick to ALP Driver.
1)Blame Acer/ODM for using ALPS TP on your machine
2)Blame ALPS for coming up with lousy device and driver
3)If you didn't check before buying then it is just too bad. Choose Synaptics.

But the TP works with the HP driver? I just want my TP working with the scrolling function! If the multi-gesture function don't work It won't be a problem to me.

    What driver you installed?

    ALPS really sucks!

Goto the acer driver page and locate aspire 5741G and download the alps driver there. Its the newest driver, works well.

So I ended up sending my machine back to Acer and they took out the crappy ALPS board and put in Synaptic's. Now its working perfectly. It seems some of them just don't work right and Acer knows this.

Is your pc under warranty? Send it in if it is.

How do you proceed to send you notebook to acer? I'm really thinking in that possibility. ALPS really sucks!
Are you from USA? You had to pay for the shipping service? Where did you send?

    Thanks

Contact acer via their support website. I sent mine from WA to tx for $20 with ups. It took almost 3 weeks to return but they swapped out my ALPS for Synaptics and it works perfectly now. Although, my laptop was still under warranty.
