I really wanted to buy the 5820tg, it had great specs and battery life =[ Any idea why is it discontinued by Acer? is there going to be another model that will be replacing it?
    Thanks!

Why do you say it is discontinued? If you mean the I5-450M model, it is being replaced by the I5-460M version. They are expected to be in the shops by late September.

I was told by a local retailer that the 5820TG's were discontinued by Acer.(I'm from Europe,Malta). In fact, the 5820tg isn't listed on acer's website and I can't find them anywhere on sale online.

Found one shop that said product is discontinued:

    Acer LX.PTP02.109 Aspire Timeline 5820TG-434G50MN | LASystems

So you're saying that they stopped production for the i5-450m at the moment and they're coming bck in September? What about the i5-430 model? and if i'm not mistaken there was a 5820tg with core i3-350m too?

What we have seen is that all of the Madison Models (I5-450M) of the TimelineX series are running out of stock everywhere. A few listings show the I5-460M comming in a month or so. It looks like a small refresh.

At least one model of the 5820TG I5-450M on computer universe is no longer available Acer Aspire TimelineX 5820TG-624G64MNks - Notebooks - computeruniverse.net But another model with the I5-450M is http://www.computeruniverse.net/pro...re-timelinex-5820tg-5454g50mnks.asp?sr=5820TG. Plus,
the I7-620M version of the 5820TG is still available. Acer Aspire TimelineX 5820TG-624G64MNks - Notebooks - computeruniverse.net

I think they are just running out the old models and will be refreshing their dealers with the new Madison CPU. Maybe they are simply discontinuing the 5820TG altogether. It would make sense, since Acer has a host of 15.6" notebooks and the TimelineX is one of the more expensive models. I doubt that they have sold as well as the 4820TG or the 3820TG. It would make sense to forcus on the units that sell the best. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Ah I see, hopefully they will be available again. I couldn't find any 15.6'' laptop with same battery life and specs at that price
    thanks for your time.

On all the Timelinex models Acer is not able to push enough models to the marcetplace.

A few sources rumor, that Acer had not bought enough parts to sample all the models which thes are sell at the moment.

The problem on computers parts is , that you are not able to buy just 10.000 cpus, 40.000GB of Ram and 10.000 display's. You have to order all the parts month before to get them cheap enough to build cheaps computers like Acer.

If want to get the parts very quick and without order time you have to pay a "fast few" and these is Acer to expensive. ;)

Your doubt is the worst statistical information ever especially that you own 3820TG yourself which makes it view of what's better or more popular a bit less objective.
Why do you think that if (which I doubt) 13" and/or 14" models sell better than 15" ones you should discontinue 15" ones is beyond me. By that rationale they should have stopped producing 18" notebooks years ago.
    All in all pure speculation.

I was not saying that 13" models generally outsell 15" models. I was talking about the 5820TG specifically. The 15" Timeline has to compete not only with other brands (MSI GX640), it has to compete with its own intra-company models as well. The 14" and especially the 13" did not have the same pressure. From what I can see, they are selling far better than the 5820TG. Just look at the number of owners on this site. How large is the 5820TG owners thread? The ratio of 3820TG and 4820TG owners on this site to 5820TG owners is probably in the area of 25-1 and maybe higher.

The 5820TG will be on the market as long as the 3820 or 4820 just to get the costumer, who want a 15" display.

The name Timeline(X) is a brand name and will be selled. Just to push out the TimelineXX in the year. Never damage one of your brand names.

You're probably right (you normally are :) ). The unavailablity of the I5's in any other size will probably help liquidate the 5820TG's out there and Acer will keep making them. I doubt that they will be produced in the same numbers as the 14" and 13" models.

Same thing here in Norway, 5820TG models are disappearing from stores, same for some 4820TG and 3820TG models.

I guess it's just due to Acer not being able to produce enough computers, so there will be a shortage until next model comes out (the i5-460m most likely).
