    Hello guys

my acer aspire boots up but only to white screen.

Laptop works fine on HDMI cable to TV.

This has only started after changing the thermal paste. (Temps are fine)

Sounds like cable for screen is not fully inserted, You can access it from the panel underneath. if you use something blunt you can just push on to it and push it back into its connection. The wire passes by/under the fan and goes of to the right of the access panel when you have the hinge facing you.

If you struggle to see it I can take a picture tomorrow for you.

you can slide it back in without the need to remove the fan again.

    I'll do it now.

    EDIT,

Its the silver and black covered wire, goes onto the end of the motherboard. Its at the end of the screwdriver. this is with th laptop hinge facing towards me.

I had that problem with mine two years ago... turns out the lcd cable had a short and melted all of the wires together where it flexes when you open the screen.

Just get a new cable on ebay for $10-15 and that should fix your problem.

But it is definitely worth checking connection first. The OP has said that he had taken board apart to add new thermal paste, To get to it the fan needs to be removed and the cable for the Screen passes down both sides and under the fan, This is easily disturbed and easier to check than taking the whole LCD and top cover off and apart.

Yeah, The lid plastic is shocking. the corners of mine are broken. That's why I had to replace screen but I don't mind as I was given the laptop because the insurance company replaced it, and the guy who's laptop it was said I could have it if I retrieved his photos for him

    :D

That's odd... I have NEVER had issues with the plastic on my machine cracking or anything. And upgrade?!?!? The only upgrade mine needs is a nvidia 9600m GT. But I'm still playing bfbc2 pretty smooth.

I have to agree with ajbutch123 on quality.
Aspire 6920G in the family has been working fine (mechanically) for the last three years.
It just developed an issue with LCD but that's another story... ;)
