Hi,
I own a Acer 7545g and in October I ordered my Windows 7 and yesterday it finally arrived from Mentor Media.
So I followed the step by step instructions and installed Windows 7 with out any problems and added the drivers.
How ever in device manager next to HD4570 there is a (!) so I think my Laptop was only using the HD3200 card.
I tried getting the drivers from ACER Driver webpage and from ATI radeon and it will not work.
Has any one else having this problem? Any one knows if ACER/ATI plans to release a driver to fix this or have ACER just raped me?
I have now reverted to using Vista Ultimate x32 and every works perfectly, but I would like to use Windows 7
-
You can use Vista drivers on Windows 7 - that might help things a bit.
Do you have hybrid graphics in your 7535G (the HD 3200 and an HD 4570)? -
Thanks for replying.
Yes the 7535g has two cards, HD4570 for performance (when it works)
HD3500 for battary.
I tried the windows vista drivers whilst and that didn't work either(
-
Try downloading the latest drivers direct from ATI, the drivers have been updated about 4 times since Windows 7 launch. So could be worth a try.
-
I tried that, still have a Exclaimation mark
(
-
Well, right-click on the Radeon HD 4570 in your Device Manager, and tell us what error message it's throwing up.
-
There is just a exclaimination mark next to HD4570. Also I have noticed that laptop sees 4GB ram but is only using 2.5gb ram?!
-
Adey, are you running a 64-bit version of Windows 7? You need that to enable the use of all 4GB.
And just saying there's an exclamation mark doesn't help - right-click on the Radeon HD 4570, hit Properties, and copy & paste what is shown in the Device Status box here. -
Thanks for assitance. I want it use the full 4GB Ram, I don't why it isn't I was thinking perhaps its tied in to my video card problem.
At the moment I reverted to Vista 32bit as I needed to plug in to a projector, which I could not do with my little video card problem whilst on Windows 7.
I am going to re-install Windows 7 32bit tonight and see what error message I get. -
Again, you need a 64-bit version of Windows 7 or Vista to be able to access the full 4GB of RAM.
-
Ah I see, at the time I had Windows 7 64 bit and it still didn't see the full 4gb Ram.
However my Father has stolen that copy so I am going to install a 32bit version and also to see if that makes any difference to my video card problem. -
Right, I have just installed Windows 7 32bit and installed the ATI drivers from ACER.
Under systems it says Installed RAM: 4.00GB (2.37 GB Useable) Is it supposed to say that?
In Device Manager
HD 4500 Series has a Exclaimation mark on it with the message
"This device cannot start. (Code 10)"
My HD 3200 graphics is working perfectly.
Any one else having these problem?
Thats Intresting, how come Microsoft Update is trying to install a update for the Radeon H4500 series but it keeps failing, its tried three times. -
YAY I FIXED IT!
I uninstalled the HD4570 from Device manager then told the computer to search for devices.
It found a VGA device and the microsoft update service installed its own driver.
I think I'm using the HD4570 and not the HD3200.
I ran the system rating and its gone to 4.1 which is what it was on Vista.
Now the only think worrying me is that my 32bit system is seeing 4GB RAM but only using 2.37.
Whilst my Father's laptop (win 7 64bit) is seeing his full 3GB RAM with nothing in brackets next to it. -
Exactly.
32-bit operating systems can't use 4GB of RAM - they need to use all 32 bits of address space for video memory and kernel memory as well. Hence, only 2.37 GB of your RAM is usable by Windows in a 32-bit operating system. At least Windows 7 has the presence of mind to tell you that you've got 4GB installed - Vista would've just shown the 2.37.
What did you mean that "Windows 7 64 bit didn't see the full 4gb Ram"? -
4GB Ram installed (2.37GB useable) -
You go into display properties check out how much RAM did your Graphics Adapter take up?
Then add up to see if it totals. -
The only possible way I see that happening is if your AMD chipset lacks support for 64-bit address space, effectively limiting your usable RAM in the same way as a 32-bit operating system would.

After the microsoft update service installed its driver, I got a screen of just my desktop background.
My laptop seems to think i have 2 displays, one for each card, and I am stuck using the display with the 3200 (Display number 2).
Is there a way to swap displays? I've tried setting it to only show the desktop on display 1, but the screen goes blank for a while and then the change reverts back to the old setting.
Thanks in advance. -
I've got it working!
I thought I should try the only thing I hadn't yet but was worried to do; Update the BIOS.
After the update my display is still set to number 2, but now it is the 4500 series.
Hope this helps anyone still stuck with this problem. -
From another forum.....
Anyone having a problem can fix PowerXpress and restore functionality as follows:
Uninstall all ATI products using Control Panel > Programs and Features (NO need to uninstall drivers through device manager)
Flash the bios to version 2.04 (Downloadable from Acer Home > service & support > driver download > notebook > aspire > 7535g > select windows 7 from dropdown menu and see v2.04 under BIOS tab)
Insert the Acer (green?) Upgrade DVD that came with the Windows 7 DVD and run the setup from Common Drivers > Video_AMD_PUMA_Win7_X86X64_8.634
And low and behold upon reboot PowerXpress shows High performance in the box and will switch automatically again! -

Hello Winston,
Have you checked compatibility?
Just an FYI for you.
It is always best to check with the software manufacturer FIRST. They will tell you if they have tested the product and the version, as well as whether or not it will work with Windows 7.
Check out the Windows 7 Compatibility site: (There you will find out about hardware and software compatibilty.)
Windows 7 Compatibility: Resources for PCs, Devices and Software Programs
There is a pulldown from which you can choose "hardware" and "software".
There are also some great articles, instructional videos and such to help with your Windows 7 at our Springboard site:
Windows Client | Deploy, Manage, Desktop, 7, Vista, XP | TechNet
In any event a lot of the times, Vista drivers will work in lieu of Windows 7 drivers, however, it's not 100%!
As stated previously, it's best to have the Windows 7 certified drivers installed.
Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here Windows 7 IT Pro Category . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to check the threads available there for additional assitance and support.
Thanks again,
John M.
