After suffering with an Iridium laptop for 3 years i decided to upgrade and eventually settled on a bargain priced Acer aspire 1670. I have had it home for 2 days and low and behold now I am listening to a constant fan noise. The fan is not as loud as a hairdryer but is still eating away at my nerves. I thought that most new laptops were silent, ie no noise except the harddrive. Can anyone tell me otherwise please?
    Thank you in advance
    Chris

It`s because your laptop has a P4 chip in it which runs hotter than a Pentium M chip thats why your fan is always on.If you want a silent laptop get one with a mobile chip in it not a desktop chip.

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking along the same lines. I'm not too bothered about mobile processing though, as all i wanted was a desktop replacement.
    cheers
