Hi, I got the 5672 a week ago and so far, it's great with the exception of the cam not working and the mild heat (which I have somehwat rectified with AS5 and a few heatsinks).

Anyways, I am getting around 47C to 56C and under load it shoots up to 65C-70C. Does anyone know what the usual temps are? And is there a way to set the CPU fan to high all the time>

there's a way to set the fans on high all the time...but i wouldnt know why u would want to do that... have u tried fan control? i would say download NHC but i havn't had much luck with NHC and empowering... my 5672 runs suprisingly cool when i have nothing below the touchpad area. very wierd to do this but i usually sit my notebook at the edge of the table with the end hanging off, and when i do, the touchpad doesn't even get hot or very warm.

NHC works GREAT! The CPU temps looks accurate, unlike that crappy Speedfan which seemed wacky. I ran 3DMark, too, and I got 4490. I don't know if that's good. Test was boring to watch.

Now with NHC, I see my idle at 51C to mid 50s, and load at about 61C right after 3DMark.

A laptop cooler lowered temps about 3C. More significant cooling seen over the touchpad with the cooler (also have heatsinks on my chipsets).

Still can't find a way to configure fan speed, though.

    EDIT:

OK I uninstalled NHC, it's crashing my comp. I wish it would work I'd like the CPU Monitoring. Oh well...I've decided that with the vent off, my temps drop dramatically, about 10C. So I'm sticking with that.

I idled at 50C and maxed at 60C load. This is due to 2 reaons

#1. The cpu fan will NOT SPIN UP until the cpu temp is 50C. Any temps below that are hard to obtain b/c the fan is not activly cooling it!

#2. The stock cooling on the 5672 are a crapshoot (check my review and process in the near future)

I use NHC to cool down the cpu as much as it will go (1ghz). I'd like to get it down to 600mhz to 800mhz if @ all possible! Has anyone tried to underclock this sucker in NHC yet?

With NHC I experience random crashes. Is there any way to turn on active cooling all the time?

I too am doing some digging as far as finding a way to activate the fanspeed to lower the temps inside the case. I don't mind the fan constantly running, I think someone needs to write an acpi code for the latest chipset (give it some time) to allow fulltime cooling on the fan as well as the various speeds.

I'll do some digging this weekend, but between my sr. year of college with homework, working 40 hrs a week, and "life" I don't have alot of free time to go digging for an acpi driver for this current chipset.

I'll keep digging, however I must note that I have not had any problems with NHC and it has been stable on the last 2 laptops I have owned.

SSX, I wouldn't underclock it much under 1000MHz. Even NHC warns that too little voltage will make the system unstable. States it right on the monitoring screen.

My CPU runs at a constant 50-51C. I use NHC, and undervolt at 1.000v for 10x, and .95v, which is standard (minimum permitted unfortunately) at 6x. Other voltages set to range from 6x to 10x incrementaly. Rock solid, under any usage, max temp never exceeds 61C under full load.
Seems fine to me, and I think that this is a decent notebook. ;)
