Hello, I saw that some have this computer and have put XP on it instead of Vista. I'd like to do the same!!
May I have a step by step procedure on how to put XP on this thing?![]()
I know I'd need the right drivers too that are XP compatible... Where could I get them, because on the ACER site for drivers they only mention Vista Drivers.
Please help me!![]()

Get XP drivers first and burn these to a disc. Can't help you with finding any. Then just pop in the XP disc and restart. Boot of CD and format drive and install XP. Insert CD with drivers when needed and install those.
But why do wish to get rid of Vista? It's good, really. Give it a try for a month or so. You can always format and go back to XP. Since I got Vista I'd never go back to XP anymore. Vista has improved a lot since it was released. Try it and save yourself a headache from trying to install XP. -
Well, estimating that Vista eats more memory than a Boeing eats kerosene... I think that it would be better to have XP on a good machine like this rather than having Vista and have it go slower.
Plus my programs and games that I use don't work apparently under Vista.
Or they do work, but only for a few minutes...
Anywho, all the drivers are OK when I install them under XP? Where can I find the XP drivers for, let's say Nvidia 8600 GS but for XP? Just on the Nvidia site? and for the motherboard and the rest? -
But like you said, i think I will try Vista, see what works and what doesn't, then after if my daily programs i use only work half, then I'll go back to XP. I'll be getting the new notebook on tuesday or wednesday.

So far I haven't encountered a compatibiliy problem that I couldn't solve with Vista. Most games and software that worked in XP work in Vista. Some games need a patch, but that no big deal IMO. Vista is just fine.
Vista needs more RAM, but RAM is cheap. Just make sure you have about 2Gb and you'll be fine. You can get away with less, but why not go for gold when your buying anyway.
Videocard drivers can be found on www.laptopvideo2go.com. Like I said, I wouldn't now where to find the other drivers. My first thought would be Acer and my second the part makers.
Vista is a good OS. Right now I see no real reason to prefer XP over it. -
Thank you for all your help! As soon as I get my computer, I'll fiddle around with it, but if I find anything inconvenient, BAM!!! Right back to XP!!! LOL!
I don't know, maybe I'm just a purist to like XP so much... ;-) -
i actually have mine set up as dual boot..i wiped the disk, installed a COA REAL XP copy and split the partition and added vista..it works like a charm and has given me zero problems
-
But you had a laptop that came directly with XP and then you just "upgraded" it? OR did you have vista, then format the whole thing, then put on XP, then add a Vista partition?
I'm a bit confused on how to do this...
My computer will come with Vista already on it, and once I start it up for the first time, Vista will install by itself upon starting... Well, at least I think that's what it's gonna do. My actual Sony Vaio did that: It has a certain space on the HD where XP is officially permanently there.
Does this Acer have the same you think? -
See this link: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=190581
Great instructions from CharredPC and others.
The euro or american acer sites should have your xp drivers [more info in above link]... if not then may not be able to put xp. Try the ftp site mentioned in above link first.
Hope this helps. -
Umm I'm having major troubles to get my video driver for my GeForce 8600M GS 256MB video card, it doesn't want to install. it says that the driver that came with my computer doesn't work under XP, so i went to laptop2 whichemcallit... and when I try to download the driver it says "ERROR REQUEST". Is it because I'm downloading with my old Sony for my new Acer?

OK, as someone said once, i think Charred did in his tutorial, I have to have Vista on my machine if it ever breaks down or else the guarantee won't work. So I'll have to have both on my computer (XP and vista installed). I have a lot of questions:
-How can I do this?
-I've already wiped Vista and installed XP with only one partition on the HDD. can I just add a small partition and install vista there? How much space does this bugger need?
-Will I see the 2 proposals of XP and Vista operating systems upon startup? How to get it?
-Does Vista have to be on the C drive to have my computer considered as still under guaranty?
Anyway, thank you very much for all your help so far, thanks to you I got going pretty good! It's just too bad that Acer forces you to use Vista.
