    Acer Extensa 4620
    Pentium Dual core 1.86Ghz
    3Gb Ram
    250Gb SATA 150 HDD

I bought this laptop a week ago. Just yesterday all of a sudden my hard drive became ridiculously slow. Doesn't matter if i'm using XP, Vista, Linux, or linux live cd. I tried to back up my files but it was showing a transfer speed of 100-200 kB/s. It takes 6 minutes to boot XP or Vista and about 4 minutes to boot into linux. I was wondering if its the hard drive or the sata controller.

the hard drive light is on all the time but most of the time the hdd isn't really doing anything. Takes a extremely long time to do anything in windows or linux. 1+ minute to open firefox. benchmarked using sisoft sandra and cpu and ram are running fine

    any help greatly appreciated

Run HD Tune, and upload a screenshot of the benchmark.
