The ability to charge the battery on an ACER Travelmate 2423WCXi was intermittent. I don't have the original power adapter as ACER didn't think it was necessary to return mine when they did an a different repair. I checked the voltage and I get a 19.2 which I think is close enough to the 19.5V needed to be functional. I do suspect the DC power jack as at time just wiggling the adapter would make the laptop function. Now the fun part, is it impossible for anyone but an experienced tech to replace that jack? How difficult is it to disassemble the laptop and get to that part?

It's not too tough, but if it's soldered to the motherboard you're gonna want a decently powerful (35W to 75W) iron, fully heated and sold desoldering tools (wick, solder sucker etc) to get it off and clean up the mounting holes. You nominally need to get all the way down to the motherboard on most laptops to change the power connector. If it's on the motherboard you'll have to remove the motherboard as well usually.

Thanks, now all I have to do is find the OPEN SESAME instructions :) ACER does not supply service guides and their service dept is not to be trusted. Mine went in with problems two years ago, had 1 G RAM and the original adapter. Came back with 64mb of RAM and a generic power cord!
