This is probably a really retarded question but i can't figure it out, I have an extensa 4420. just recently moved into a home where the internet and utilities were already setup. They have a linksys wireless router. WRT54G they have a network and a password. When i enter this into my e-net management screen it doesnt work it asks me for a WEP key but i do not have the WEP key nor do the owners of the home. Is there any way possible i can enter the password to connect or set something differently? maybe im missing something? any help is appreciated

    Thanks,

    Ray

    Hi,

the WEP password should be visible in the configuration interface of that router. You may check Linksys website for a router manual.

Apart from that, WEP is insecure. If possible, WPA2 should be used.

The WEP key is the router password. WEP keys can be entered as a long string of nonsense (The Key) or as a text passphrase (footballmad). Make sure you select the right option before entering. (when you read the key/password from the routers screen ensure you see which is checked)

It sometimes helps to turn the router off for 5 minutes first then on again.

Then : are you logging into the right router ?

and as already said it takes a matter of minutes to hack WEP using todays processors and techniques. If possible move everyone to using WPA2-PSK
