I recently bought several ACER Aspire 5517-5689 laptops from OFFICE DEPOT, advertised as having a TF-20 processor installed. The BIOS and Windows both state a TF-36 processor as being inside the laptop.
Advertised Processor: TF-20 AMD 1.6 GHz with 512KB L2 Cache, TDP 15w
Installed Processor: TF-36 AMD 2.0 GHz with 256KB L2 Cache, TDP 25w
Anybody else having the same switching done to them by Acer/Office Depot?
Please email me if you do.

The TF-36 is a better processor.

. And the 10W TDP difference isn't anything to overlook easily, if one shops exactly for that type of CPU and, in turn, battery life.
I only have one Acer laptop that came with everything they said. Can't help you out, sorry. -

I know about the battery issue, and I tested the battery. It will not last longer than 1h 40min, which is way below the advertised 2.5 hours. I have done several tests under varying condition. The heavy usage test utilizing the processor at 100% kept the battery charged for 1h 14min, and when tested under normal user conditions about 1h 24. This is pretty much what a mathematical calculation would calculate when comparing DTP 15W vs. 25W, and assuming a battery life of 2.5hours as Acer advertises with this model.
Yes, my question was an overall question, not just processor speed, but also taking into account the lower L2 Cache on the TF-36 as well as the higher TDP.
Also will the battery will be at it's End-of-life 40% faster if each charge gives me 40% less usage time due to the power wasted to cool down a TF-36 processor with 25W? Is my assumption accurate and reasonable?
I am still curious as to any feedback on this issue and appreciate everybodys input.
ACER substituted a TF-20 processor with a 2.0 GHZ TF-36 processor on my newly bought laptop- downgrade/upgrade?
