I have red many of the post on the Aspire notebooks, mine is a 7720. My question is if I change my SATA HDD from ACHI to IDE will I lose the information on the HDD? (I messed up and crashed my XP and it wont reload - it cant find the HDD and I don't have time to build a slip stream disk).

You will not loose the data changing from AHCI to IDE however XP may not boot. If it does not boot you could try booting to safe mode and then removing the AHCI device from device manager and then rebooting or if the drive is in add remove programs uninstall it so that the default XP drivers are used the next time you boot.
