Hello everyone. I bought this new Acer Extensa 5620 a few days ago and downgraded it to Windows XP. However, even though i installed all the drivers properly, i still get ACPI problems. The problem is similar to this thread of Lenovo laptops.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=136351
The computer freezes everytime i try to go though the log-on screen - meaning everytime i try to shutdown, restart, stand-by, hibernate and log-on/off or switch user.
I had the same issue with another laptop i bought and returned before - which was an Acer Extensa 4620.
If anyone was able to successfully downgrade to Windows XP without problem please help me.
Thanks.
P.S. I will also post the solution, if i find it.

I found that there is a great possibility that the reason for ACPI problems is due to the Webcam Drivers. I remember that i saw a lot of forum threads asking for help about Webcams drivers before. But i never read them because i thought it was not the cause in my laptop.
I found out that it was the main cause by chance. Currently i don't have the Webcam drivers installed and it goes through the log on screen without problems. I am trying to find if there are better drivers than the ones given on the main site. If i install the ones on the main site, i get ACPI issues immediately.
Also. i still get a very annoying problem. That is when i log-in my account and start loading the basic processes. Sometimes, it loads to the middle, there is a change to the theme to a classical theme occurs and then the screen turns black. I think it might be because i still don't have the webcam drivers installed. -
Hi, I've downloaded XP drivers from www.acerpanam.com and followed the following installation sequence:
- XP
- AcerLAppFix
- Chipset
- VGA
- Audio
- Touchpad
- Fingerprint
- Bluetooth
- Launch Manager
- LAN
- Wireless
- Webcam
After each driver installation I rebooted the PC.
Everything run ok. System rebooted, turned off, passed to stand by, etc.
Then I installed the antivirus (AVG 7.5 free) and the problem arose.
I will try again without this antivirus (maybe with another one) and let you know.

Uninstall the webcam totally. The device will stay installed. Thats part of your problem.

Without the antivirus, there is no problem. Even with installed webcam driver. I installed a few softwares and everything is ok.
Seems to be a problem with the antivirus (AVG 7.5-free).
Best regards.
