    Hi all!
I have a little issue - can't decide buy or not to buy the AMD M5950 (from HP). I'm thinking about buying M5950 and 6770m, but as I work most time in Adobe Premiere & After effects - the best choose is M5950. The problem is - I don't know is my Acer 7738g recognize it.

So, help me to decide, please)

It should work, but you'll never know for sure until you give it a try.

It would be nice, but could it possible, that HP flash its own BIOS to this card?

The vBIOS is not a problem. Long time ago, half of the HD3650 GPUs (most of GDDR3 ones) were with HP vBIOS, and they were working fine with Acers. The compatibility problem, if there is one, could be somewhere else.

Okey, I'm going to order it immediately. Hope, this one would work.

    Big thanks, triturbo)

Yes I had it working though the m4000 would be a lot faster.

But M4000 cost more than M5950 ($359 compared to $79 on ebay). But it would be grate to find it under $200.

Well check the bechmarks between the 6670 and 7750 to get an idea of the difference in performance.

M4000 in 3DMark11 P shows 43,3% increase of performance compared to M5950, but I think, it's not worth such money for me now ;)

Just received it yesterday - doesn't work with my Acer. When I tried to power on with this card, screen is off and what only happen - a long beep with 2 short beep after long. What does this mean?

UPD: Found the Phoenix BIOS error code for this: 98h - Search for option ROMs. One long, two short beeps on checksum failure.

How could I solve this problem?

Is it blue PCB card? If yes then problem is lack of bios eeprom on PCB. Green circle on the picture.

You need eeprom chip which You will have to solder in the place where is missing. But first You will have to program that chip with proper vbios of M5950m or probably 6770m, using some sort of programmer. The best way to do this properly would be to find someone having m5950 or 6770m card who would provide You with photos of that bios eeprom on the pcb. That's how You will knew what exactly chip is used and how it's orientated on the pcb. If You will not find someone to provide You those photos You can try use Pm25LD010 chip which I know is used eg in Clevo 6970m or Apple 6770m. To know in what position solder chip on pcb (you can do this in two ways) put the card in the slot (with heat sink on off course) and power up notebook. Measure voltage on empty pads of bios eeprom chip and compare them with datasheet of Pm25LD010.That's You will know which legs of the chip where suppose to be. If You don't feel like Your modding and soldering skills are up to this job then I advise You to find some sort of computer repair shop or maybe You have skilled friend /college who can do this for You.
