I just ordered an AO 532h-2309 from Amazon, along with the 2GB G.Skill Memory upgrade that was recommended for this model in the comments section. Neither has come in yet, but I'm a little worried about performing the upgrade, since I've never really messed with hardware on a computer before.

    1. Is there an online how-to with pictures to show me what to do? Or will it be pretty self-explanatory once I look at the computer? I'm usually fairly good at figuring things out, but like I said this is new territory for me.

    2. Will installing new RAM void the warranty?

    3. Does it make a difference whether I start up my computer for the first time before or after I install the new RAM?

These might be rookie questions, but I don't want to mess something up on my brand new computer and then find out I've voided the warranty and there's nothing I can do...

    Thanks for your help!

Hi alyssaadiane, and welcome to the forums!

    1. There might be a how-to in your user guide - the quick start guide available online does have a clear diagram of where the memory compartment is. Should be as simple as unscrew the memory compartment panel, pop the original RAM chip out, insert the new RAM chip in (there are tabs to hold it in), and replace the panel.

    2. Installing new RAM should not void the warranty - just keep the original RAM around in case some Acer rep gives you a hard time about it. Heck, I've upgraded my CPU, RAM, and hard drive, and as long as I send it back with all the original components Acer Canada will honour the warranty.

    3. No difference at all - computers will recognize more or less RAM without any additional configuration needed.
