I bought an Aspire 3623WXCi in Atlanta at a 4th of July weekend sale. $549(price) - $150(mail in rebate) + $10 (double the RAM for free)=$409.

It worked fine for a couple of months, now it has started acting really weird. Very very!! slow bootup times, sometimes upto 6-7 minutes to finally get to the desktop!! crackling/resonant windows sounds. It has become very very laggy, it almost feels like working on my old PIII-650 Mhz machine. The mouse movement is also very shaky. The research wihch I've done tells me it could be something wrong with the FAN. Although, the FAN is spinning, continuosly though, it doesn't stop at any moment. I tried cleaning up the RAM modulesa and changing their slots, but I don't think RAM is the problem. I was wondering if some experts here can guide me in the right direction. I'm in India, so it's not coverred under any warranty :( and the Acer people here say they'll charge $30 just to open it! . I can open it up myself, am not an expert but decently adept at handling hardware matters. Please, I request any of you to please guide me. Thanks in Advance

have you tried doing a virus/spyware/adaware scan? or try a clean format/reinstall of windows. that always works for me if something happens.
and its a generic fix for most problems.
(make sure to back up anything you want to keep)

thats whta i would do before dealing with hardware. then if the problem still percists then it will probably be a hardware issue.

Thanks for your reply bugmenot..Yeah I did the spyware/adware/virus tests already. In fact i keep doing them on a regular basis, I haven't tried a hard format/reinstall though. My laptop doesn't get slow after booting into windows, it is slow from the point i push the power button. The windows logon/welcome screen takes about 3-4 minutes to appear. So i don't really think it's a software/virus issue, unless its a virus which has attacked the boot sector(which I'm 100% sure is not the case), but even then it should be slow after the POST screen, and mine is well..as i said slow from the word go. Thanks for you help though
