I have an Acer 6920g, my battery went more or less dead, so I bought this one. It will dischrage, I can unplug the battery and it will work. But it absolutely refuses to charge in the slightest.

Send it back for a refund ?

Why would it not be working? I have to send it back to HK

As I understand your initial message the battery came with some charge, it ran down but does not charge.
Assuming your original battery charged and still tries to charge we can be sure the Laptop and adapter are ok.
You therefore have a problem with either the charging/safety circuitry in the battery or its connections to the laptop.
if you have tried removing and replacing the battery a couple of times to be certain of the connections then it is clearly defective.
i would e-mail your observations to the supplier for comments -
Could voltage be an issue? It's a 14V and my last was 11V. However it said specifically it would work in a 6920G.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but maybe the A.C. adapter cannot handle the increase in Volts from the battery. Hence it not charging.

Speculation about adapters voltages is not that useful
IF your laptop was originally offerred with an 8 cell (14V) option then you shouldbe ok with an 8 cell (14V) aftermarket battery of the right type.
HOWEVER if It was ony specified to have a 6 cell (11V) battery then there is no reason to believe the charging, voltage regulation or other circuitry have been designed or specified for the higher voltage and this may create long or short term problems. If it had been why not offer the higher spec battery themselves as a very profitable accessory /alternative build
Authoritative sources for compatability are
* Acer original spec sheets listing e.g. 8 cell battery as an option
* Acer offerring 6 or 8 cell options in their shop. e.g. in the UK shop battery list only a 6 cell battery 2000mAH?? is offerred for the 6920g while the 5930g lists a 6 cell and an 8 cell option
The conclusion here is uncertain: the original PR material for the 6920G said 8 Cell, reveiws complain of short battery life (sounds like 6cell). I think a calll to Acer to check if "a longer life battery" is available might be illuminating. Otherwise if you know that your laptop will charge a 6 cell but an 8 isn't charging you might conclude that 8 cell is not ok for your build /model -
Maybe the higher models had 8 cell? can't find a spec sheet that mentions it
-
Anyone got a service manual or original spec sheet ?
-
no???????????

I emailed Acer but no reply... .

Took them 5 days to reply the only time I tried to get some assistance. You could try PM' ing acer insider ?

Thanks Acer Insider!!
In which case if the laptop is able to charge your original battery we must conclude the new battery you have is defective. Return to vendor !!

Could the problem maybe be voltage? Or does the number of cells have a set voltage?
-
It the laptop can charge the 6 cell battery and was apparently designed to charge the 8 cell too then I think the problem is in the battery not the laptop.
FYI, Batteries are often made of two parallel strings of cells (to beef up the current capacity vs a single string) So a 6 cell will have 3 cells in series of about 3.7V per cell adding up to about 11.1V but with two such strings both supplying that 11.1volts together
8 Cells can have two strings each of 4 cells totalling 14.8V with two strings in parallel again to boost the capacity
Hope thats clear . . ish . . .. wish I could do drawings -
WHen I bought mine, the vendor said a 14V would not work if the original one was 11V. I'm sorry but I think you will have to buy another one
-
I think this has been worked to death. The vendors always cover themselves - there may be laptops that battery size fits that CANNOT handle 14V, but according to Acer Insider this one can. BUT
- Firstly the supplier rightly or wrongly said the above
- Secondly we have some detailed info that 8 cell and 6 cell are both tested and listed by acer
So I think it is 100% certain the supplier should be asked for a swap/refund.
As no-one has popped up to say they are using a 8 cell battery I would be asking the supplier if they wanted to send an 8 or a 6 this time.
AS07B2 battery won't charge
