has anyone tried to reformat the above model and run it on XP pro?

I'm thinking of buying that laptop but drivers and bios only support vista...

i think i can find the drivers for xp but does anyone know if the current BIOS will not work with XP?

also does anyone know if any of the acer programs are required for the laptop to function properly?

any VISTA BIOS automatically supports XP.

the only difference is a VISTA BIOS has an EXTRA area of information that XP totally ignores

Thanks Bigozone, good to know. I need new laptop and I have no idea if I'm gonna like Vista or not- I've never played with Vista. I'm guessing from the number of people on these forums loking to downgrade to XP (or upgrade, as some say) that Vista can be a real pain in the butt.

the hardest part is finding all the drivers needed.....

then you have to combine the SATA drivers into an XP CD

see the SOULPASS link in the 5315 upgrade sticky!!
as long as you have an INTEL CHIPSET/CPU that guide to making a CD makes it easy!!!

and i bet half the drivers there work for you too....
JUST BE SURE TO INSTALL THE REALTEK ADUIO DRIVER FIRST!!!!

thanks for your reply, appreciate your help

The chipset and gpu drivers can be easily found in intel's website and i guess xp drivers for webcam, audio, bluetooth etc...can be found around these forums.

However, my biggest concern is if any of the acer programs are needed for the laptop to function properly? or all the acer software is optional?
