Sent mine to service, for a screen replacement.

P.S. Now it's about 100 euros cheaper than last week, when i bought it. I'm so lucky with this great acquisition...

Haven't had the chance to play around with it much, but it wins MAJOR points on style alone.
Is the Acer Empowering Technology software as useless as it was two years ago when I got my previous system, or is it worth keeping this time around?

eRecovery is a must! Without it you can't make your Vista recovery DVD ;). Every Acer has 10 GB secret partition where is stored OS and drivers. The first thing to do is to run eRecovery and make recovery DVDs.

Made them, wiped all the HDD and repartitioned it. I will make my own version of Vista, a unattended and slimmed one and them, after configuring all the programs and installing all the drivers... a better and more customized image of it. That factory image, full of crap... i'm keepin' it for the moments when it must go back to them, to service. All those ****ty games... who needs them? :D

Fully aware of that, wojwoda. Thanks.
I'm really loving this machine, I gotta say.
Just needs some new games to play.
    (crap, did that rhyme?)

    Only a few minor issues:
-They shrunk my favourite Shift key on the keyboard! This is gonna take some retraining to get used to.
-The CineDash is handy...when it works. There are times it doesn't like me.
-Neither does the Wireless LAN button on the right side. Sensitive to bumps from underneath.

Here you can buy only one model! How that is lame :(...

Good to hear ;). Other Acer Empowering software is mainly useless.

    I only don't like keyboard :(. That's why I didn't buy it.

Does fan work all the time like reviews mention?

I don't think so, it's really silent, almost annoying (you don't know if they stopped or they are cooling your hardware). The keyboard... yep, but it's almost the same with the rest of Gemstone models.

It does whir at a good clip on mine, but only when I'm tasking my system with 3D gaming and stuff.
Speaking of which, it's high time for me to get some NEW 3D games on my laptop - ones that the old Intel GMA 950 couldn't handle.

Could somebody post some benchmark results of the 6920 with full specs (core 2 duo 2.5 ghz T9300, geforce 9500m gs, 4GB DDR etc.)
I am very interested in buying this notebook, but i would like to know how good it handles games etc.

thanks in advance, and sorry about my english.

    that sounds really great! :)

But if anyone have benchmark results already, please post them. :)

I am actually in a kind of hurry, because it is a gift for my brother. (hes getting married)

Hes still a bit of a gamefreak, and he really could use a notebook. so.
i was wondering if any of you have tryied to play games like crysis, assassins creed etc. on the 6920? can it handle games like this?
and does the cinedash control react quick?

Still haven't benched it but as far as I know, it's better than my desktop (X2 6000+, 2 GB DDR-2 Corsair Dominator, 8600 GTS..).

The CineDash panel it's a bit lazy, but nothing serious.

I benched the 6920G in my mini-review (haven't had a chance to do a complete one since it's my dad's and he lives 500+ km away).

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=250648

They don't have the T9300 CPU in Canada yet. This model has T5550, 9500M GS, and 3GB. In game performance wouldn't be much different with a T9300 and 4GB since they aren't bottlenecked.

I just picked up this laptop from Costco, the 6864 verison. I sure wish this one had a faster CPU and perhaps a Blu Ray drive and higher res screen. Oh well, perhaps Costco will start to carry a higher end model before my 90 days are up. Anyone have any insight on this?

Anyways I have some questions I was hoping you can help me out with:

    1) The ExpressCard slot: I bought a Belkin Sata II ExpressCard and when I insert it into the slot it kind of snaps into place and you are supposed to push it in again to release/remove it. But I noticed that even when it's snapped in place you can pull it out very easily by accident. I wonder if this is a problem with the laptop, the Belkin card, or just the design of the ExpressCard slot.

    2) Subwoofer: When I play a CD, the sound is pretty awesome and it definitely sounds like the sub is playing. But when I run the speaker test and it goes thru all the speakers, when it gets to the sub I don't hear any sound. Am I doing something wrong?

    3) My Memory Card slot worked the first time I used it, but wouldn't work the second time. Anyone else had problems with theres?

Thanks in advance for your help,
    Ekimzulad

I just bought new Acer Aspire 6920-6621, uninstalled Vista Home Premium and installed 32bit Vista Ultimate. The fax/modem disappeared from Device Manager and the drivers provided do not help it find the device.

This message is extremely time sensitive (need solution within 12-24 hours) so any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

What do you mean by that? Do you see "unknown device" in device manager or there is no "unknown device"? Later would be strange as that would mean:

    1 - no modem
2 - modem died, no device present
3 - you have wrong driver installed and device is not functioning properly and you see that exclamation mark at icon

If you see "unknown device", download drivers from here:
    ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_6920G/vista/Drivers/

Unpack, go to device manager and update driver by hand (rght click, properties, drivers ...)

    Gl,

my problem is that i cant find a way to download right empowering software for this model (the one with the top bar, eAudio etc) in the acer site.

someone can help me? o send the software via email or something?

thanks anyway, sorry for my english :p i'm italian

Drivers (both x32 and x64) are here:
    ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_6920G/vista/Drivers/

Empowering tools that came with your computer are not available yet, at least not on euro site. But you can try older version -- check aspire 9920 folder on FTP, I found it has more recent than 5920.

BTW, you did made rescue DVD's before wiping disk, right? I am pretty sure you should have apps available on one of DVD's. Now if you didn't ...

Well, i've found the driver, but the modem driver for x64 is missing. not a big problem, btw.

And for backup cd, well, no, i didn't. But im a reseller, i can do a recovery cd for other machines, but is'nt important. i cannot extract acer empower and acer arcade from the recovery cd, and the recovery cd is 32bit. i want vista 64bit :p

i'll try the empowering from 9920 tomorrow (now is 2.55 am of 1st june here)
    thanks!

    Oh well, good morning.
The Empowering Technology of aspire 9920 don't work, for some reasons:
-The first, i want the empowering technology that came with my laptop, with the topbar auto-hidding, not the floating glossygreen dildo with "e".
-Second reason, it crash on open :p

Thanks anyway, if someone have other advices it would be very appreciated!

    Ok, here is my report:

I've noted some little problems with vista 64: modem driver not preset, cinedash volume dont work properly (work as relative point, not assolute point), empowering unavailable, acer arcade unavailable.

So i've just boot my aspire with GAG and boot with PQservice partition, (alt-f10 trick won't work due to changes in mbr, i think), and reinstalling the whole system with preinstalled stuff.

    Hello acer 6920g owners!

Ive just benched my acer aspire 6920g.
It did only score 3254 3dmarks. Its tested with the default 3dmark 2006 settings.
my computer has a t9300, 4g ram, geforce 9500m, vista ultimate 32-bit, etc.
Ive read read many reviews, where its scores 3500+, with less ram and weaker processor.

What could be the reason to my "bad" score?

I've talked to the service and found out that my model doesn't come with a subwoofer (and a lots of models doesn't, only a few does). They promote it by lying customers (every paper in the box, every offer on the internet said that... and look, there is none!). My dead pixels aren't dead, after all, they say. I'm very mad, I've threaten them and now, I'm expecting some results. And a subwoofer!

Wonder if that's the case on mine, especially considering it clearly say TUBA right on the back of the "spine."

    Just a heads up.

I've been looking into buying this laptop for about a week now, but when I went to the store today they had moved it to the clearance section and I was told that they did not currently have any on order (This was in Canada, at Staples, and the model was 6920-6470). According to the salesman, the model was discontinued.

I guess that they may be addressing the issue with the subwoofer or something. Has it been pulled anywhere else?

I read that this laptop does not have an LCD latch. Does it have a magnet that holds it shut, or does it just depend on stiff hinges to keep it closed?

I think costco may have pulled it as well. I can't be sure if it's the exact same model because when I went back to check, it wasn't available anymore.

    it had a T5550, 3GB RAM, 9500M, 320GB HDD, no bluray - pretty sure it was a 6920-6470

    Hi there!
Have you tried downloading the latest drivers from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/? That could solve your problem.
And remember that 3dmark scores are relative...
    Hope it helps!
