So I did see a link for a Blu-Ray remote in this thread but could not find one. Is there something I could to have a remote so we could watch movies in bed without needing to get up to use the computer?

Well the mouse idea did not really work. You can move around but doesn't let you select any of the menu options as far as I can tell.

A lot of Media Players you can use the mouse to select menu options on your dvd. I'm sure it's the same for Blue Ray movies. I know Windows Media Player I can use my mouse and select play/chapters/features etc. But I don't think WMP plays Blue Ray. What media player are you using for Blue Ray? Maybe try Cyberlink.

My freezing issue on Windows 7 fixed for real this time by changing AHCI driver in the bios to IDE driver. Don't know what these are, but I had nothing to lose and now I'm more happy. Don't know why the freezing problem was only happening to some 9620 owners. I thought all 9620 are the same built.

I'm not sure, but it looks like the one we have. It's only $699, what a deal! I got mine on boxing day last year for $999. If they still have it for $699 in 2 months I'm getting another one for my sister!

Edit: Nvm, the 10 nearest locations all sold out.

Are both of you from Canada because the same thing happened to me I found the Acer 6920G for $700CAD but all there is, is the display model :(.

I think they discountinued the 6920G too.

    Acer Aspire 6920 I presumed?
I have the same model as well but with G.
Overall for this mid-range laptop is quite good.
The most devastating weakness of this laptop is its "lovely" throttling on the processor.

Trying to fix a friend's AS6920-6875 laptop. Was purchased July 08. In October 08 the machine would not boot Vista64 up at all even after Vista attempted to fix the problem. Did a restore from the factory image. Now the similar thing has occurred. Friend she had shut it down normally and the next day Vista said it could not boot up properly and asked whether it could fix the problem. This process repeatted twice more supposedly.

When I got the laptop I powered up and it said the same thing but also had Boot Windows normally option which I selected and booted the machine up fine. I did noticed that the laptop appear to hang when I was sending multiple files to the recycle bin. When I went to actually shut it off noticed that SLEEP option was selected. Now do not know if this is what the owner had used on the prior shutdown or not.

Anyways I selected shutdown which it did. About 15 misn later I powered it back up and again vista informed me that the recovery partition had a problem with the Master File Table. Allowed it to go through the process of "fixing" the problem and then it automatically rebooted. However it again said the same thing but this time the cursor just sat there until I pressed enter then it rebooted but this time it had the Windows did not shutdown properly as well as Boot Windows Normally option. I selected the latter and it again booted properly.

Was able to pull the drive out and run Spinrite on it which was able to recover some data off an unrecoverable sector on C: .

Is there a known problem with this latop and hard drives or Vista64? It has a WD3200BEV1-222CTO 300 GB drive.

You said you did a restore to factory and was still doing this? I thought at factory it's Vista 32bit. You trying to install 64bit or have installed 64bit? Over the 32bit or on a different drive?

I hope I understood your question right.
Most 6920(G) models come with the 1366x768 screen, but can output 1920x1080 to an external monitor or TV.

Thought I'd repost this here as I have had no replies to my post:

    Acer Arcade - Help!
I have 2 problems with this software:

    1. I have a ridiculous issue with Acer Arcade and I hope it's just me being stupid!

I have only had my A6920G for a couple of weeks and have only tried a few DVD's/Blu-rays in it. 3 of the discs I have tried to play have the in-built menu banner (ie. with 'play' 'scenes' 'special features' etc. on it) in exactly the same position as Acer Arcade's overlayed controls which mean that I cannot play the DVD or Blu-ray!!

Is there a way to re-position the overlayed control bar? If not then this is a serious design flaw.

    2. When playing a standard DVD, I get severe screen tearing. I don't get it with Blu-ray playback just standard DVD. I also get it with WMP but not as severe.

On a seperate issue, my Fullscreen toggle doesn't work - pressing F11 in Firefox or IE does nothing. The laptop is only a couple of weeks old. Is there a way to enable thisfunction in case I have somehow disabled it?? Anyone know how to fix it?

Does anyone have any solutions to these issues? Thank you for your help.

Maybe you have to update something don't update Acer Arcade or else no Blu - Ray. Check for other updates e.g Firefox, IE, drivers.

I already made that mistake and lost Blu-ray. I had to uninstall and reinstall the old version. What are Acer playing at releasing an update that ruins Blu-ray playbacka nd doing nothing about it?? I e-mailed Acer suppport about it and they replied that it wasn't a known problem and told me to use my recovery disks to reinstall the default system!!!!

Do you know if it's possibl to move the Acer Arcade control bar? Has the control bar ever obscured your DVD menu buttons?

I've just found out that my PrtSc / SysRq button (next to F12) doesn't do anything either. I just tried to take a screen grab to demonstate the control bar problem in Arcade and can't copy the screen. What is going on with this laptop??

    EDIT:

You have to press the Control key and PrtSc button to activate the scren grab. I've never had that before??! Is this the same for everyone else?

I thought I'd demonstrate the control bar problem I'm eperienceing with Arcade.

Here's a photo (screen grab can't grab screen of Arcade for some reason) of the menu screen of Band Of Brothers Blu-ray:

To play the first episode on this disc, you have to click on the button which says 'PART ONE - Currahee'. However, as soon as I move the mouse pointer, the overlayed control bar appears right on top of the button I need to press to start the episode playing. This means I cannot play the disc! See here:

I have only tried a few Blu-rays and standard DVD's and this is a problem with more than one of them.

Unless someone knows a workaround or a way to move the control bar then this is a major design flaw. Surely someone else has come accross this?

    Any help appreciated.

Try using the arrow keys and enter to select the feature that is usually under the control bar. Worth a shot.

Thanks for the suggestion TehSuigi! I just tried it out and that works! Why I didn't think of that I don't know!!

Another problem I have just come accross is that whilst playing a movie, if I fast forward using the CiniDash, I can't find a way to rusume normal playback??! I've pressed all the buttons but it just keeps fast forwarding. Anyone know what button to press?? I thought I liked this new laptop but it's already driving me mad!

EDIT: It's now working. When I couldn't get it to work the play button was unresponsive. It is working fine now. The Arcade/CineDash software must be REALLY buggy.

    Issit buggy?
Just update the arcade/cinedash to latest version. I guess it will be alright.
Anyway, I don't have any bugs for it. Yet, I heard some shops said it is buggy.

Hello people, I've searched for an answer to this, but without success!

I want to replace the DVD drive in the AS6920g with a slimline blu ray drive. Buying the drive isn't a problem, actually getting the drive out of the 6920g seems to be. Can anyone help?

I've removed all the access panels on the bottom, but it looks like the drive itself is contained underneath the chassis. I know that if I can get the drive out I'm capable of putting another one in, I'm just a bit reluctant to remove the chassis if I later find there's an easier/quicker way of getting the drive out (and the new one in.)

Hi, why you replacing blue ray drive with blue ray drive? Unless yours didn't come with blue ray or you want a better drive.

I'm not replacing blu ray with blu ray, I'm replacing the DVD drive with blu ray (assuming I can get the drive out of the machine, of course.)

according to acer you just remove the 1 screw shown and pull out the drive.
i've not done it, but it sounds reasonable enough.

I think this is because you set your default playing(when inserting) to another software or "do not start automatically".
I don't know where to set it back already. Tehsuigi. Your turn ^^!

I removed the screw and the drive came out, which is great. Ordered a Blu Ray drive and hope to fit that soon. I'm guessing I'll have to reinstall the media software to run Blu Ray films, though.

Obviously, something big enough to handle a 16" notebook.
I've heard the Zalman NC2000 is among the best out there, with plenty of fan coverage (keeping in mind that most of the warm bits in the 6920G have supplementary vents on the bottom).

Yep! But I would like to suggest a TABLE FAN(a d@Mn strong 1).
Punch a hole on the table. After that, put your laptop on top of it. Then, put a table fan below the table.
Point the head of the table fan to the hole and switch it on.
This is the most effective way XD!

You can also build a very own cooler.
Using a cage and a table fan core.
However, this build is very difficult to build by normal people.

    These methods are not jokes.

Tehsuigi sucessfully updated it to SP2 and it works for him.
I can updated it nicely but SP2 is cranky to my system.
Maybe due to minor tweaking, so this SP2 screwed up my system a bit.
At last, I restored my windows to default factory(re-installation of windows).
