I bought one of those heat absorbing cooling pad. Probably not as good as a fan.

Just installed Vista SP2 and pdtwzd.exe and Synaptics Touchpad Enhancements seem to have stopped working (according to Windows.) Hopefully it's not that bad. I did manage to log in using my fingerprint, so I'm guessing it's application launching and stuff like that with fingerprints that I can't do anymore :(

    Well, well.
You can download the softwares for those "spoiled" application from acer website.
    http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/downloads_gd.html
Search for Acer Aspire 6920G there. I think the other steps I don't need to explain.

=.=! After a installation of SP2(watever), you need to restart a few times.
After that, only can judge it is problematic or normal.

Download ccleaner and defraggler created by Piriform Ltd.
    http://www.ccleaner.com/ - CCleaner D/L
    http://www.defraggler.com/ - Defraggler D/L
Ccleaner - fix and remove useless or buggy registry errors and your system would run faster
Defraggler - Defrag your hardisk, save up more space and arrange your files in manner, your system would run faster

    Note-
There are a lot of tweaking on windows vista but I do not recommend you to tweak it because some tweaking can cause system slowdown or unstable.
Optimising/Tweaking have 2 methods, 3rd party softwares and manually adjust in the registry files.
Personally, I do adjust some of it but I do not dare to touch all. Last time, I did tweak a lot but end up system unstable and lead to failure.

    WARNING

    Hi Guys :)

Last night my computer went nuts and started to artifact very bad followed by an overheating system message "Not from the CPU" It turns out after a sharpish shutdown that one of the vents below with the fan inside was matted with dust, quick hoover with the power OFF to all vents and it runs nice again.

So dont forget to give it a quick hoover to prevent damage of overheating.

    Good News I think.
I found a way to prolonged the time before CPU start throttle.
Basically, we use Rmclock's "disable/enable throttle" to regain the processor speed that had been reduced/throttle while gaming.
    Now,
using RMclock, in the advance tab, disable all "Intel Core/Core 2 family enhanced low power states".
Using this method, you can have your gameplay smoothly about 30-40minutes before it starts throttle.
However, when it starts to throttle, you need "disable/enable throttle" like what we do usually.

    Another permanent method,
Just go to the advance tab in Rmclock, select thottling option there and LOCK THROTTLING SETTING.
Your CPU won't throttle anymore. Cheer!
I tested it by playing GRID intensively, the CPU didn't throttle at all. The maximum temperature RMclock shown was 53C(50-55).
*But I don't know is there any risks.

Doesn't work for me - I've had Lock throttling setting enabled for a while, and I still downclock.
Of course, you did update the BIOS to 1.14...

I was not too sure about BIOS v1.14 and LOCK THROTTLE SETTING can work on the other games.
Sometime it was just lucky the CPU didn't throttle for a hour.
Not really sure it is 100% fixed.

    Yea, I did.
I noticed the time for the CPU to throttle while gaming is longer now.
Last time, when I play Left 4 Dead, it throttles after a few minutes(10minutes basically) and now it only start throttle when more than 30minutes or 40minutes or 1hour.

I guess no problem for me.
If feeling bad later, you can revert it back to v1.10.
I doubt 1.14 should have improved something.
I hope in the coming version the throttle fix.

    Yep!
AS 6920G is 64bit based with CHIPSET GM965. So, it can support up to 8GBs of RAM.
But in Acer eSettings Management, it shown maximum support for 4GBs of RAM only.
Basically, you need to flash your BIOS I think(to get the 8GBs of RAM reading) or you can experiment it by putting 2x 4GBs RAM bars into the RAM slots.

My AS6920G has the PM965 chipset (GM965 has integrated video) and in Intel site says that it supports up to 4GB.

Intel does not update thier website sadly.(last time only have 2gbs ram bar, so, maximum is 4gb) I also wonder where did I see the website stated it support 8Gbs again.
    After all,
I found that, there is a lot of laptops with PM965/GM965 chipsets support up to 8GBs.

i have tried putting a dell 1490 wifi card in my laptop. i started up windows and it finds the driver and loads no problems in divice manager. when i press the wifi button i get a green message saying no wifi device attached. any ideas why the launch manager button cannot start the device when windows is happy enough. i thought that pci-e was pretty standard. only difference i can see in the cards is that some pin connections are joined as in picture.

Have you install the device driver nicely?
If you have installed it, I think the problem would be Launch Manager and Windows Mobility Center.
I am too sure about this.
Launch Manager is responsible for setting up shortcut keys for some programs.
Windows Mobility Center, you can manually turn on the WIFI there.

hey does anyone else here connect a second monitor to their laptop? i have been doing so for maybe 2 months now.. but today, when i woke my laptop up from sleep, the monitor dies after a few seconds.. restarting the monitor will show my desktop again but it will go dark after a few seconds.. tried restarting the laptop and the same problem still occurs.. the monitor doesnt lose power. when i disconnect the vga connection to my laptop, the monitor displays the "no input detected" message and goes to sleep. So, the monitor isn't going to sleep. it just seems to be displaying a blank screen.

    any help?

It seems to be your CPU is actually throttling.
THROTTLE = Processor slowdown itself to avoid overheat
Well, this is very common for 6920G. Almost every 6920G have this problem.

This is my famous topic on fixing this problem. But TRY IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=393073

There is another way on fixing this but not a complete fix.
You need to download RightMark Clock (RMClock).
I will provide the useful link for you to read yourself.
So far, this is the BEST solution and workable for almost everyone.

Official download link and guide for RMClock, http://cpu.rightmark.org/products/rmclock.shtml#rmclock

Hi, the only thing I can think of is that the launch manager is programmed to use a given wifi adaptor. If windows is happy enough then use that to configure your wireless connection.

Hello guys, I've been reading for 2 hours on the forum and I can't find the info I'm looking for. Can you point me to the right place where I can read with what I can replace my Graphics card (9500m GS) on my 6920G? My old one burned and I'm in a hurry to find a new replacement at a good price. I'll be really grateful for the help.
P.S. I can find 9600M GS for 115$...is it a good replacement and is the price good?

Of course you can replace if not mistaken. Because I have seen AS 6920G come with 9600M GS.
But I think there is something about the heatsink that you need to care about.
Because I saw it somewhere mentioned 9600M GS heatsink can't fit into the laptop. I am not sure about this.

Hi Diablo0o, welcome to the forums!
I've made a post or two about this. The Aspire 6920G has an MXM-II slot, which means it can upgrade to another GPU on an MXM-II sized card.
    Your options are:
    -A new GeForce 9500M GS
-The 9600M GS (which does work in the machine - gazzacbr was able to make it work. Make sure you get the GDDR3 version, though, as it'll really help performance)
-ATi Mobility Radeon HD 3650 (common upgrade/replacement - again, make sure it's the 256MB GDDR3 version for better performance)
-ATi Mobility Radeon HD 4650 (this one is still very new, so you would be waiting until classic77 successfully completes it)

And no, I can't suggest the GeForce 9600M GT because of all the troubles people have had getting the darn thing to work. (besides, if you get the 9600M GS, you just need to overclock it a little bit to reach 9600M GT speeds)
I'd say to locate a Radeon HD 3650. If the 9600M GS you found is a GDDR3 memory model, then go ahead - that price sounds good!

    AS 6920G support GDDR3?
I heard it only support GDDR2?
So, can I upgrade it to Nvidia GF 9500M GS GDDR3?

The MXM 2.1 standard (which the 6920G uses) doesn't have any problems with GDDR3 video memory - there's just a limit on how fast it can be (800 MHz).
The Radeon HD 3650 and GeForce 9600M GS are about the only MXM-II GDDR3 cards I know about - the 9500M GS was never offered with GDDR3.

    LOL! Didn't read all.
But I did see some place do mention NGF 9500M GS 512MB GDDR3.
Now, I am wondering it is true?
Link(I know this website stated its info might be wrong), http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-9500M-GS.8167.0.html
After all, I found a lot of website mentioned there is 9500MGS with GDDR3 just very rare. I think it is hard to find and very less produced. 9600M GS might the the replacement choice.

Just because the 9500M GS could be sold with GDDR3 memory doesn't mean it was.
I mean, yes, it's in the specifications, but if no one was willing to put their money forward and make it, that's tough for us.

The drivers also play a huge part into whether you can overclock or not - Nvidia's official notebook releases are your best bet in getting that done.
Oh, and you can acquire an Acer-made 9600M GS or GT MXM-II card here. The NB9P-GE2s are the 9600M GSs, while the NB9P-GSs are the 9600M GTs. Not sure what the difference is between the "9PG06" and "9PG0Y" models, though.

I don't know - this is the first I've heard about the company.
However, I will say that this is a 9600M GS with 512MB of DDR2 memory. See if you can find the version with 256MB of GDDR3 memory - should be part VG.9PG06.007.

Hi, I have installed Windows 7 RC x64 and almost everything is running great.
I have installed GeForce Driver ver. 186.03 (WHQL) and Acer Arcade Deluxe ver. 2.0.6010, but I´m not able to playback blu-ray movies (at least the demo disc from Sony Pictures that came with the notebook), I was able to playback with Vista... do you have any solution?

    Thanks,

Dante, it could be the very nature of Windows 7. Remember, it's not a final operating system, so the Protected Media Path required for Blu-ray playback may not be enabled.

Keyboard protector might be awful. LOL.
The heat(not all) actually trapped by the keyboard protector.
Vacuuming the keyboard manually would be nice enough except you want to avoid other stuffs such as liquid. Hence, you need a keyboard protector.
I think darrickmartin was mentioning the keyboard casing? keyboard protector = common and easily found
    Keyboard casing is rare though.
