isn't the fingerprint reader in with launch manager ?
if you look in add and remove you can remove certain parts of the acer junk(bloatware) :D

    Nargh.
So it turns out that yes, I'm supposed to have a subwoofer, but I'm going to need a restore to factory default to get it to work.
    Failing that...it's warranty repair time.

EDIT: Yup, off to the depot it goes. Hopefully it comes back in decent shape, and with a working 'woofer.

Soon I'll get mine back. I'll make an article about removing the junk and making a clean and stable system. I think (time is the only problem, I have three jobs :D).

    That would be MOST helpful.
There seemed to be even more Acer junk on my new system than my old TravelMate when I first got it.

if the acer bloatware is in add and remove programmes.
then it can be removed most of the bloatware is just a nice looking front end for the same stuff in control panel.

and if you find you need the bloatware its on the second DVD you burned when you first started your laptop.
    an Apps disc :D

By the way, what GeForce drivers are people using?
I'm probably gonna start tweakin' things more once I get my system back from the depot.

And one other things - has anyone else run into issues involving audiodg.exe? The darn thing kept slowing down my TF2 game, despite me turning off enhancements.

A couple of questions here guys.

1.) When i was creating my recovery discs, i failed a total of 5 times. The program kept telling me that the data on the burnt disc is corrupted. Anyone encountered a similar problem?

2.) I tried to install Forceware for my GPU but when i reverted back to the original Acer drivers via the Recovery menu, my screen went blank after reboot but i could still hear windows in the background like log in sounds and such

Anyone else got hit with the same problem? I fixed it though by going into Safe Mode and reinstalling the Forceware

3.) What's the 3dMark06 rating you guys are getting? My 6920 is running 9500MGS and the 3dMark06 rating is 3230 with forceware 174.70. Seems pretty low to me >_<

    Thanks guys

When creating my recovery disks, it failed the first time on the second disk. Second time around, all worked fine.

Until I tried to reload my system. The disks were shot. Luckily, the first disk either created enough of a recovery partition on the hard drive, or the recovery partition wasn't touched at all byt the reload of the disks...but either way, I had to piece back my hard drive from there.

I have since made new disks. Not tested yet, but there were no errors after the reinstall.

...On another note, I'm now having issues with my Cinedash control. Volume on the screen (green horizontal bar that appears when using the touch controls) stays at full, volume itself stays at full, even though I've turned it down via the dial. Muting works, but that isn't really helpful. I heard someone mention popping the battery when the Cinedash wasn't responding at all, but mine is responding...just not entirely. It's like the physical volume is somehow stuck.

As a note, this is after returning home, knowing that my sister was playing with GH3 all day on here. Perhaps changing volume while in fullscreen...or something of that nature? Rebooting doesn't seem to help.

I have the same problem with the recovery disks. Havent managed to get it to work yet  Anyone have any ideas?

Also had a problem with blurry out of focus text. Got round it by turning cleartype off. Anyone else experienced this? Never had any problems using cleartype before (though on previous laptops I am using XP).

Surprisingly not as much as you'd think.
It runs surprisingly cool around the keyboards and palm rest where it counts, and much cooler than my old TravelMate 3252 (helps that the hard drive isn't under the palm rest).
As for noise - the fan runs almost constantly to keep everything cool, but it's quiet when it does so, and only gets loud under load.

    thanks, hehe

erm... when running applications, is it different? since the screen ration now has changed. can all the softwares run properly? more specifically... can i play counterstrike on it? will the game gets 'flattened and elongated'? or do i see more areas of the game(horizontally) compared to a normal laptop? or the screen has two black lines on the left and right side of it to make the game in a 'normal' viewing mode

Hey, is this laptop getting a refresh soon?

I'm thinking of going for a 16" Laptop(portable with a good size screen) and was thinking about getting this. It looks good so far.

Also, what is the resolution, 1600 x 900? If so, how does it look compared to 1920 x 1200?

@red_wine: Well, it depends on the resolutions supported by Counterstrike. There may be options for 16:9 resolutions like 1280x720 or your native res. Since it's running Source engine, there may even be custom resolutions you can use. Look around and see.

Otherwise, if you're using a 4:3 or 16:10 resolution, it will get letterboxed or elongated. The choice for which you prefer can be found in your NVIDIA Control Panel.

@Count Kaiser: A refresh? This series just came out in March! With Centrino 2dropping soon, I'm honestly not sure it'd be getting one in the near future.
I've taken the system on the road a few times - it's kinda chunky at 7 lbs or so, but still portable-ish.
You have two screen resolution options - 1366x768 WXGA (basically 720p) and 1920x1080 WUXGA (Full 1080p). It depends on which model you choose.

my mcafee internet suite has expired (the one that came with the laptop) and i want to install just the mcafee virus scan plus because my subscription to it is good till next year. Do i uninstall through control panel -> programs and features before installing the virus scan plus? or can i install virus scan plus over internet suite so that i can continue to use the other features of internet suite but still get updates for virus scan?

    are you running RMCLOCK??

even without RMCLOCK... intel CPUs now use speed-stepping,, they slow down to save battery and reduce heat when the system is not being stressed by heavy CPU load

    RMCLOCK download

use it only for monitoring temps

it has many nice features like undervolting your CPU to increase battery life and reduce heat,, but until you have read FLIP FIRE's UNDERVOLTING GUIDE at least 2 times and know what you are doing,,, do not even try to under volt.

just install RMCLOCK and use it to monitor the temps...

all you do is install it.!!!!

    LINK FIXED!!!!!

Well, yes. When your CPU is idle, it uses things called CxE states to temporarily drop down to a lower frequency and voltage. Coming back to full power from these states is instantaneous, and it can help reduce heat and power usage.

you may try searching thru the REGISTRY SETTINGS for the LAUNCH MANAGER program... and find the setting for the blue tooth start-up

change it from 0 to 1

if you can find it.. i have no clue where it is and don't have bluetooth.... my laptop doesn't even support BT.

That looks like an excellent spec and at a price streets ahead of anything we can get in the UK!

All the good basics are present and there are lots of upgrade options when the time comes :~).

I thoroughly enjoy my system, and the config you posted is a better one than mine for roughly the same price.
I say go for it if you want, but you might prefer a proven design like the 5920G instead.

WOULD A ACER 6920 OWNER KINDLY HELP ME?!

i got a Acer 6920-6968 and i made the recovery DVD's i would like to know how you got rid of the bloatware that came with the PC. I don't have a fresh copy of vista :( so I'm gonna have to use a program to remove the bloatware

also when i first turned on the computer the setup took some time to complete, is this normal? it took more than 30 minutes
