It took some time for me too don't worry. For the bloatware, search the internet what are the file uses.

yep, it came to my mind too. Tried to do sth through Nvidia control panel by setting brightness, contrast, and gamma but didn't get much improvement...

Hm, but I have another problem with this notebook. I've just put my own copy of windows and had no problems with any of the drivers, got them all from the acer support website, with any but one. When I install the webcam utility through the setup and I start the 'ACER Crystal Eye Webcam' application, I get this message:'Camera not found!' I go to the device manager and there it is, it says no driver has been installed for it. I try to install the driver through there but it says that it found the driver but that it's missing a part of the inf? I tried to download and install the utility again, I tried to find the driver itself somewhere else, but nothing. Did anyone have such a problem? thnx in advance for your replies. :)

ok i have a problem with running a few games

i ran Halo 1 yesterday and it ran Perfectly Fine but now after i did some updates it says "A problem occurred initializing Direct3D. Hardware acceleration maybe disabled, please run DXDIAG.

Also when i run Bioshock the window opens and it the top it says, "Bioshock not responding" this is visible for a second and then the window maximizes but it doesn't take up the whole screen, there is a 2 inch gap on the right i can see my desktop however i can run the game

the game seems to be running fine (I hope that means my GPU is good)

Next time, there a button called edit when you have "updates". And for your question, I know you can remove mcafee(unless you don't have another anti-virus) and microsoft office. But keep everything with the name acer. For the rest I can't remember

    4GB is easy to add.
A TV Tuner can be done through USB or ExpressCard.
    The T9300...that's the kicker.

@LKR: I did a clean install, which wiped out Acer's boot-up sequence, thus neutering the Arcade Instant-On feature.
@CQ: OK, I'm settled in. On it!

Giant bump, but totally worth it - look what the Acer Chaser found today on LV2Go!
A new Nvidia driver release from Acer - 176.37 from August 19 - in all the colours of the wind! WHQL, too, so you don't lose your Blu-Ray compatibility either.
    Vista 32/ 64
    XP 32/ 64

I'll be trying these sometime soon, after I do a Complete PC Backup.

As do I, but unfortunately they aren't an option for the 6920 series - lack of compatibility with the 1066 MHz FSB.

I have a Casio digital camera and I use a 2GB MicroSD card with SD adapter (I also have the MiniSD adapter, it is a Kingston 3-1 pack) when I put the MicroSD card with the SD adapter to my notebook, it took a lot of time to recognize it and sometimes it hangs up... do you experienced this same issue? what can I do to solve it?
    Thank you in advance.

can't seem to find that disc, would it be a problem for you to upload that driver somewhere? please, I've searched everywhere on the net (acer offers just some utility which apparently doesn't contain a driver)

Actually, I just checked my Crystal Eye device in Device Manager - it's using the basic Windows driver for it.
I don't have the capture utility, but it still works in MSN.
Anyways, here's the Suyin and the Chicony versions of the Crystal Eye utility.

hm, I have the suyin utility, that one works with this camera. so... it's the same as with the nvidia network controler, it has to use the windows driver, cause it's not distributed solely, thnx for that, now I know kow to solve this =)

The poor keyboard and bad gaming performance (relative to a 2600 equipped notebook) has brought me to the conclusion that I should return my 6920.

    I wish I could get a US keyboard version with a 3650 rather than the 9500m. :(

Yeah I might get one of those - I have a Toshiba A300-02C right now (and the 6920g). I only need one. :D

The A300 is neat - Centrino 2 and 3650 for $300 more than the 6920g cost me. I'll know soon it it justifies the extra cost.

this is getting interesting, I've reinstalled windows leaving drivers for the camera in the windows installation, and now when I go into device manager the webcam is normally installed (under the imaging devices) and functional but the utility still can't find it, I still get 'Camera not found!' error when starting the suyin utility...

EDIT: chicony version doesn't even start or do anything when double-clicking on the .exe (after installation)

175.61 for now. Upgrading to 176.37 saw a drop in 3DMark, and had the unfortunate side effect of disabling sleep and hibernate.
...of course, that may have been due to some partition oopses I made roughly around the same time. Might start bouncing around drivers once I get a complete backup primed.

    LV2Go or Acer's FTP.
Strange thing, though - LV2Go has 176.37 as an Acer release, but the Acer FTP has 176.26 available for Aspire 6935s.

EDIT: On a tangential note, I'll be installing Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex when it's released next month on my system. I'll keep you guys posted with how it goes!

Well, I just restored my system after a botched driver install, so I'm a little hesitant to put a new driver on.
175.61 is working just fine for me. ^_^

EDIT: Although I might go tweaking the shader speeds to see if it makes an impact. Should it?

LKR, take the last five digits of the number Windows uses - that's your Nvidia driver number, 175.61.
It's the latest officially released for the 6920G by Acer, although LaptopVideo2Go.com does have 176.37.

That driver is the slowest driver released in the last year by about 15%. The 177.98 is a little better.

    That's in games, not 3dmark06.

I could not play GRID at all with that set and I found UE3 games pretty slow. Lots of stuttering.

Speaking of 3DMark06, I just got a stonkin' great run after a little bit of OC'ing.
With my shaders running at 1188 MHz instead of 950 MHz, I pulled a 3718 at 1366x768 - almost a 200-point improvement over my stock run! Without any artifacting, too.

Of course, for some reason, my GPU core itself downclocked to 470 MHz inexplicably.
I'll reboot, see if that fixes it, then keep on plugging away.
Does anyone know any problems with the latest RivaTuner?

EDIT: OK, this is freaky - I was able to get my shaders up to the maximum - 1425 MHz, 3x the core clock! Didn't do a full run (left out the CPU tests), but if I kept them in, I would've gotten a score of 3830. Un-effing-real.
    Of course, now I'm wondering:
    a) how do you tell if you've pushed your shaders too far? Things started to look a little on the grainy side, but still no artifacts, even at max speed. The GPU itself kept cool, too - 66 degrees with my room fan at full blast over & under the keyboard.
    b) why does RivaTuner 2.11 keep lowering my core clock by a megahertz each time I OC the shaders? I'll bounce down to version 2.09 tomorrow to see if that makes a difference - at least that one detects my frequencies accurately.
    c) wonder how this'll do in real use, i.e. games?
