Hi, New here. Bought a used 6920 or 6920g it cant seem to tell me which ine. The sticker says "G" but the model does not. When I go to Acers web the serial comes in as a "G" but their system info program has it as the non G. Anyways, how do I get the hdmi to work. This model had the plastic covering it. I popped the plastic off and there is a HDMI plug. I know some do not have the hdmi but there must be a way to get it to work. Here are the specs.

    Windows 7 Ult 64Ultimate
    T5750 dual 2.0Ghz
    3gig ram
    320gig 7400 rpm HDD
Motherboard: Acer Aspire 6920 part number:1310A2184401
    GeForce 9500m GS
    Bios 1.10 7/7/2008

Have search everywhere for hdmi drivers for this and other models found nothing. Would it be a Bios thing?? Or too bad? So far like the unit but bought mostly for the HDMI port, as all the reviews said as well as the sticker that there is HDMI out. And Bluray but thats not a big deal.

    Thanks.

@Canad1an Bac0n: hmm, strange. the plastic sticker on the front always says Aspire 6920, G or no G.
if you have a 9500M GS then you have a 6920G. the G meaning a 'real' graphics card not an on board chip.
my HDMI port has always worked, check you have the acer realtek driver, as they have driver for sound through HDMI. (only v6.0.1.5582 for tuba bass thats what it says in my backup driver folder)
windows 8 had sound drivers built in.
very suspicious that you had a plastic cover on the hdmi port, mine never did from new. only 2 plastic covers for the power and wire lock.
you could update your bios, dont think that will help as 1.1 is what your laptop came with.
cant really help much more that that.

I have a 6920 that needed a new palm rest mouse pad. It was working fine
before I took it apart save for the mentioned items. Took it apart carefully.
Replaced the palmrest assy and then went to fire it up. Lights come on,
the little hhd indicator lights up then goes black, but there is NO picture on
the screen. I took all parts out like the hhd, dimm, battery, etc, and tried
to get it to start up with just ac power and still the same deal Nothing from
the screen. It doesn't show any background at all. It is just like it is when
completely shut down. It was working fine, but now nothing. Checked
all cables and connections, though I might of messed up the cable
going into the mb from the screen when I pulled it out. No loose wires
but a couple of wires kind of look pulled a bit.

I have another cable coming, but the unit won't show up when I plug into
an external monitor. I don't know what I did and could sure use some
advise. usually have good luck getting Acers to work again if dead, but
am not having much luck here. Any suggestions or clues are appreciated.

    Thanks in advance, n2gc.

Just an update. Had to change out the MB for another reason, So plugged up the basics to see if the problem
went away which it did, but also have a screen image all the way to boot up, so maybe something in the
oem board went bad. Will have to look into.

Did find one of the micro cables broke from the tiny connector for the internal microphone..

If this happens to you on a 6920, I wish you the VERY BEST in finding one ! After MUCH hunting, I have
one coming from Singapore What a REAL PITA !!!

    Hello all!

I have a project I'm thinking of doing: I want to keep Windows booting up as it currently does when pressing the power button, but I'd like to replace the AAD instant-on partition with Linux. (I push the arcade guy, and it boots to linux.)
    Anyone done this? any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Hi folks,

I'm trying to track down the 116 MXM bios for this laptop as mine had a funny turn while I was upgrading to a T9300 and it no longer wants to see the internal screen. Every link I have found is dead so am a bit stuck. The laptop appears to be fine otherwise as it picks up my TV connected to the HDMI port so hopefully the fixed bios would correct this problem. Any help with getting this file would be great :)

Hello I'm Wayne and I am new ere.
I own a Acer Aspire 6920g for about 5 years now. I believe my CPU is throttling as I'm struggling to play World of Tanks. I have tried following some of the threads relating to this throttling issue. In short I'm not getting any where fast.

I copy my message in this thread, that collects all the questions concerning the 6920.

Salutation to the forum's members. Excuse my poor english, I am french.

I recently tried to flash the bios of my Acer 6920G laptop because my 9500M GS Graphic Card was misfunctioning and I bought a 9600M GS new MXM card, normally compatible, to replace it. Because the new card was not recognized (black screen), I tried to flash the 1.10 bios with a 1.14 version, on windows. I didn't know it was risky to use winphlash with resident softs opened (antivirus and others), and the flash failed.

I now have a corrupted bios, but I am not able to reboot in a crisis mod (with a Crisis Recovery Disk on CD or USB Drive), even with the Fn + Esc combination.

The point is now the laptop automatically powers on when plugged (the fan is launched), without pressing the power button, and shut down after 2 seconds. Same problem if I try with the battery. And no way to restart it after.
It seems I can't access to any recovery mod for I am not able to power on the computer more than 2 seconds. I unplugged the CMOS battery during 12 hours, but no result (anyway the bios is corrupted). The only thing I didn't tried is to use an external USB floppy Disk (I have to buy one), but I fear it wouldn't change anything as long as I can't power on the laptop.

I'm working on this problem for dozens of hours to fix it, and your help and advices would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in Advance,

    Marvelus

Hi guys! I'm new here, but i read a lot of useful things here, and now i decided to join in because my dad bought a new notebook and he gave me the Acer Aspire 6920G and now i need some help. First of all, i want make a factory reset, i known that i can do it by pressing alt+F10 when i start the computer but does it works even if my dad have upgraded to Windows 7? The next thing that i'd like to do is upgrade my laptop, for the CPU i've already found a T9300 for 30€ so i just need a new thermal paste, any advice for a good one that not conduct electricity? I don't want make damage :) For the GPU, i known that the most used for upgrade this machine are the 9600m, hd 4650/70 but on ebay all of them cost more than 200€, i found a GT130m for 40€ and is MXM so it should work right? And did i need to do something to make it work? Thanks for the help and sorry if my english is not perfect but i am italian

    @ Jajo240

Hi there and welcome to NBR.

If you use a hidden partition you will restore Vista that the laptop came with. Better make a clean install using Win 7 DVD and the key you are using now.

Thermal pastes are not conductive, so not need to worry about that. Sometimes someone will claim that i.e. Arctic Silver is conductive only to prove to everyone else they don't know the difference between conductive and capacitive but that's about it ;)

I can't make any recommendations as far as MXM module is concerned - I have had to replace one in a failing 6920G and it was a major nuisance (even with modified BIOS) so I'll leave that to others who will hopefully confirm which specific card worked for them (see MXM upgrade thread for details- this one and this one)

my 6920g finally died on me in april 2014 aftee 6.5 years of non stop use due to the common bad.capacitor that every 6920g eventually.runs into. sooner or later you'll run into it aswell. so dont upgrading anything when down the road it wont even work. i.tried.to get the bad capacitor problem fixed and nothing. the laptop is now.worse than before as.the display doesnt even work now. so just a heads up.for u so you know what your.getting yourself into. i ended.up.building a new pc because i.was just tired.of all the headches the 6920g gave me.since the start of the year. and after 6.5 years it paid.its dues so it was just time to.let it rest in peace.

its on the bad cap forums just google and you'll see for urself. as for temps i was getting temperatures lower than that because i took the lid off and put a household fan blowing air directly at it so if you do the same you should see your temperatures drop even more.

Mine died a couple of months ago too, and I was about to open it to recycle some pieces. I've deal with such capacitor problem on another model of pc, it would be great if this was the actual problem. My pc would just lose power and turn off, battery or ac.

If I can't bring it back to life, is anyone interested in some parts, other than the ram or HDD?

EDIT: Nobody wants the laptop in my family, so FREE parts for you guys, just pay for the shipping cost and I'll be happy to give them to the community.

    I have my niece;s 6920 that got a virus and hasn't
been fired up for at least 3 months. It worked when
last I had it. It hasn't been charged for as long a time
either. I know on my 5315 when it stopped, I had to
go through a process to fire it back up again. Does
the 6920 require the same jumping of two places on
the motherboard as well as pulling the battery, pressing
the start button to dischargethe caps, etc ?

I'm sure it's been covered here in this sub forum but
132 pages is a lot of pages to look through for a restart
bring it back to life procedure. Any tips or tricks ?

    Thanks in advance..

    Bob

I actually came here looking to see if anyone had gotten a 8gb ram kit to work with this laptop. I've enjoyed playing with it over the years. I have modded/unlocked BIOS, a T9500 (stable up to ~235mhz fsb with SetFSB program), an GT 240M 1gb ddr3 (715core/1030mem), and an 840 evo ssd. If I could get the 8gb of ram then i could use the Rapid feature of the evo without any potential slowdowns since 4gb is starting to show its age now. (I know its not supposed to take up more than 1gb or 25% of total ram)

[QUOTE="i only need someone that can help me with the upgrade of the gpu[/QUOTE]
Afaik the best gpu for the 6920 is a GeForce GT 240M i cant find any links but i got mine about a year and half ago from china. no problems at all for installing and booting. you will have to use modified drivers though. http://laptopvideo2go.com/ and type in the Hardware ID info.
